THE 3 STOOGES GO SWIMIN'

Heh y'all; Homer J. here. Yesterday was a beeeuuuttteeful Saturday here at Lake Anna. It was sunny and warm, about 83 degrees according to the big Golden Retriever thermometer hanging down on our patio. Our cuzin Caitlin is visiting this weekend. We LOVE Caitlin. She's 13 and is always really nice to all of us. I hardly ever give kisses to anybody, not even mom & dad, but I give Caitlin kisses cuz she's a visitor and we don't see her enuff. Anyway, yesterday afternoon all 8 of us Bumpass Hounds were out in the paddock when we noticed that dad and Caitlin had opened the door in to the kennel so we ALL ran up to the patio to see them. Well dad called for me and Max and Shiloh to come into the kennel. Everybody else wanted to go in there too, but dad only let us 3 go in. I had to squirm through everybody else. Max and Shiloh each weigh about 150 lbs so they just pushed everybody else out of the way; I think they mightta knocked dad down on their way in. Anyway, once we got in the kennel, all 3 of us noticed that Caitlin was holding LEASHES. We LOVE leashes cuz leashes mean that "we're going someplace." Shiloh wanted her leash so bad that she almost knocked poor Caitlin over. Dad had to yell at her a little bit to get her to settle down. Caitlin took my leash and dad took Max and Shiloh's. Then dad opened the kennel garage door out to the driveway and the outside world. Me and Caitlin were assigned the lead even through Shiloh really wanted to lead. She sure made dad's arm pull out really straight (and long). Hey dad, why are you screaming? We started walking up along the road and boy were there some really nifty sniffs. I've never been up the road that far before. I'm the oldest Bumpass Hound but I'm also the newest. I was adopted in November and we haven't gone for many walks in the cold weather. I kept stopping to mark the way so that we wouldn't get lost; I also might have gotten rid of a little of Friday night's dinner. Hey dad, what was that popping sound? Hey Caitlin, look at dad, he can walk without moving his legs. Why is there smoke coming out from his tennis shoes? Boy, the other guys don't sound too happy about being left behind in the paddock. Hey JEB, good thing dad doesn't understand what you just barked at us. Soon we rounded the corner and couldn't hear the other guys anymore. I wonder where we're going. Caitlin doesn't seem to mind it when I stop to investigate stuff. I guess we have one more corner to go around, WOW, look at all that water. This must be the lake that everybody was talking about. Max seems really excited, I can tell cuz dad is screaming louder now. I've never been to the lake before. Dad took off all our leashes. We can run and play without being tethered? Where are Max and Shiloh running to? Hey, they're running into the lake; they're all wet. The lake must be like a really, really, big waterbowl that you can get in to. I think I'll give it a try. Let me just walk in a little bit. YIKES, it's cold. I think I'll get out, well it's not too cold. Maybe I'll just walk around a bit in the water but keep my tummy dry. Why is dad taking pictures? Do I need to smile? The water doesn't taste bad and I'd never be able to empty this bowl. We got to romp around in and out of the lake, well at least me and Shiloh did. Max never came out of the water until it was time to go home. What a swell walk. Maybe next time the rest of the pack can come along and I might let my tummy get wet. Dad said that we can post the picture that he took.

All of us Bumpass hounds want to thank everyone who has helped out Ace. He's doing better but he has a ways to go yet. Pleez keep Ace in your thoughts and prayers. If you don't know about Ace, just read the previous blog posts about him.

I'm still so tired from all of yesterday's excitment that I'm gonna go and take a nap. Talk to y'all next week.

ATTENTION GOLDEN RETRIEVER LOVERS
Someone pleez make room in their heart and home for Taffy. Taffy is about 12-13 yrs old and has the most adorable and expressive eyes. Her owners moved and she didn't adjust well to their new living conditions (no fence) so she is looking for a new home. Taffy is a little old and set in her ways (just like people) and she doesn't always like other dogs bothering her, so a home without other pets, or someone with the time and patience to acclimate her to existing pets properly is required. Taffy is a beautiful lady as you can see from her photo. She is looking for a quiet, loving 4ever home in which to enjoy her remaining "golden" years. You can check out Taffy, and other adoptable dogs looking for 4ever homes, at the Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary website; just tell Miss Carol that the Bumpass Hounds sent y'all.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
