THE PUPS HAVE CROSSED THE BRIDGE

It's a very sad night, not just in Los Angeles, but across the world of dogs and animal lovers. Ben and Jerry have crossed the Rainbow Bridge at a very young age. The Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue organization did their best to try to save them and a lot of very kind people lent a hand to that effort but the odds were just too great and the cards were stacked against them. We have a empty feeling in our tummies and feel really bad. Perhaps if their owner had done something sooner it might have helped them. At least they had some memorable fun times at Spencer's home while they were being fostered, before their ailments caught up with them. We all have heavy hearts and tears in our eyes. We'd like to remember them as they were in their video on YouTube:

From the fund raising site ( http://www.firstgiving.com/deborahnicolle ) came this notice:
"REST IN PEACE ~ BEN AND JERRY - It is with a very heavy heart that I must inform you that Ben and Jerry have lost their battle with Distemper and have gone on to the Rainbow Bridge. We could not stand by and watch them deteriorate any further....they were clearly suffering. SCGR Rescue and the heroic vets did everything in their power to save these two....but Ben and Jerry's weakened bodies were no match for the ravages of the cruel disease. We want to thank all of you for your donations and your prayers.....it means so much to us to know that so many people cared about these two darling golden pups."

(Added Note (7/1/08): Please take the time to visit Spencer's Blog tribute to these two little guys http://blog.stickerdog.com/?p=832 and perhaps drop Spencer and his people a little "thank you" comment for what did to give these guys a few short weeks of quality living that they hadn't known before. It would have been all too easy to have just given up on them from the start, but this family really tried to give these pups a fighting chance. All dogs, and good people like these, go to heaven.)

That's all for now, we're going to go to bed and howl for Ben and Jerry and cry a bit too. Thanks to SCGRR and to y'all in Blogland for trying to save Ben & Jerry, and just for caring about us little souls the way y'all do. We have lost this battle but hopefully we'll win the next one

What very sad news. I am glad the pups got to know a little love in their too short time. Their videos made me cry, such wonderful dogs who didn't have to go through that.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
