(the Face)
Hey Hounders (That's y'all that read our blog - Hounders),
Homer J. here on the letter board (I can't see any keys on it). Well we got a nice update on our buddy Ace from Ms. Beverly. I'm just gonna post the whole email and let y'all read it.

Subject: Update-Ace Golden Retriever
Hello friends,
I know it's been a long time since I've updated you about Ace but I've had a lot going on in my life that I've had to deal with. One being the death of one of my own fur little Nicki.
I have great news and bad news. The bad news is that Ace's mom Pat had to give him up due to financial difficulties.
Ace had developed aspiration pneumonia and it was huge set back for him both physically and emotionally. It was also a strain on his mom emotionally and financially. The additional medical cost was astronomical. There are times when we have to make hard tough decisions when it comes to the health and welfare of our beloved family pets. This was one of them. With that being said, she had no other choice but to surrender him to the hospital in order to save his life.
Now, onto the good news...I saw him recently and he's doing GREAT. He fully recovered from the pneumonia. And he has a new mom and dad. As you might have guessed, everyone at the hospital just fell in love with him. One of the vet techs there adopted him. She is also in school to become a vet herself. So who better to take care of him then a veterinarian.
The day I saw him, he was taking his water therapy. When I walked in and called his name, he perked right up. You could just see the light in his eyes. Not only did he stand on his own but when the water was drained out of the tank, he actually walked out of it all by himself. He was a little wobbly but he did it. He goes home on the weekends and goes back on Mondays for his weekly treatments.
She takes him to the dog park and he's been to the drive in twice already. They truly love him. His new mom has set up a web site for him. It is
If you get a chance, you should look at it. She has pictures and she keeps it updated. Some have had problems finding or getting into that site but it does work.
I think you can even send Ace comments too.
Please do not send any more money to the paypal account. Hopefully, that account has been closed.
Thank you all for helping Ace. Had you not jumped in when you did, he would not have made it this far. Now, he is going to have a long happy fun filled life with his new mom and dad. Oh, and he has a brother too. Another Golden. You will see that in the pictures too.
What a great way to start a week.....
Well, the little guy is doing OK and should be fine. We're sure that it was difficult for Pat Nelson to have to give up Ace but she was undoubtedly making a great sacrifice to do what was best for Ace. Perhaps in time she'll be able to adopt a new dog in need of a loving home. We wish her well and send her our prayers. We'd also like to tell Ms. Beverly how sorry we are that Nicki has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge to join Chance, Gordon, Rusty, Penny, Bear, Kodi and our other friends that are romping through Heaven's meadows by the stream under the clear blue sky. It's always very hard to say goodbye to them when they are called to go. Ms. Bev helped out Ace a lot and we all thank her profoundly for what she did to get the word out on Ace's situation.
I asked Shiloh (AKA Stupid Head; Bag Lady; Dumb Butt; Lame Brain; Baby Huey; etc.) to check out Ace's My Space place. (Shi is a big sweetheart and always well intentioned but sometimes she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer if y'all catch my drift; but we do love her. We're just waiting for her thinking power to catch up with her muscle power.) After about an hour or so I checked on her and woke her up and thanked her for her attempt but told her we wanted to check out Ace sometime this month (this century) and that I'd take care of it. I went over to his site to see how he's doing. We ended up registering for our own My Space place to make it easier to leave comments for Ace. We read all of his blogs and noticed that he has a picture in a pontoon boat on a lake or river (no oceans by Louisville). We've got a pontoon on our lake, Lake Anna. We don't have any picture except the one of Chance that you see in his post (
Anyway, we left a little note for Ace telling him how we'd been rooting for him and how y'all been helping as much as you could. We read about his physical therapy and how well he's starting to do with getting around. We got a nice note back from Ace and his new mom so I'm posting that so you'll know all that we know. I hope that y'all take the time to check out Ace's My Space and give him a bit of encouragement. Here's the email we got:
Mail!Date Sent: 7/21/2008 10:52:00 AM: thanks so much for the support. I am now at home and I'm doing great. As far as donations go... My new mother worked at LVSES and received a pretty nice discount on services. My PT is now done on a pro-bono basis. So, thank you for the financial support...but, it's not necessary anymore!! (It's good to be loved!) If anyone donated to my fund please let them know that my new mother (Bethany Fackler) sends them a VERY heartfelt thank you and is happy that you guys have an outlet to see my progress. Also, if anyone has plans to make a donation in the name of "Pat Nelson" on a pay-pal account please be aware that she no longer is in ownership of Ace and money should not be sent to her. It's a big ol' mess... But, thank you again and if you need more info...feel free to ask.-Ace (or Bethany/ Ace's secretary/mommy)"
So that about covers it for now. We wish Ace and Ms. Bethany a long and happy togetherness. Brian Boru Beau-Maine, AKA Boru, has been bugging us to let one of the cats, namely him, do a posting so don't be surprised if you see something from old tub-o in the near future. What's the world coming to. Catch y'all again real soon. -Homer J. - Jubal - JEB - Shelby - Jack - Abby - Max - Shiloh - Alex - Boru - Jenny = The Bumpass Hounds (TBH)

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
