DAYTONA 500 SUNDAY

THE RAINBOW WARRIOR
#24 JEFF GORDON

Hey Hounders, Today is the real start of the 2009 NASCAR season (http://www.nascar.com/). Today is the 51st running of the Daytona 500. Dad is hoping for the #24 car driven by Jeff Gordon to take the checkered flag; he is starting in the third position which is the inside line of the second two car rows. Jeff didn't win any races in the 2008 season. the only other time that happened was his rookie year in 1993. Jeff has won 4 NASCAR Championships and dad wants him to take #5 this year. Winning today would be a good start. Mom's driver is Ryan Newman in the #39 car. Ryan is staring in the 36th position which is the outside line of the 18th row. Ryan is a BIG supporter of animal rescue and adoption. He conducts fund raising activities throughout the long NASCAR season at various race tracks throughout the country. He heads The Ryan Newman Foundation (http://www.ryannewmanfoundation.org/news/2008/02222008.htm) which works on behalf of animal welfare. the Foundation's book, Pit Road Pets, is a collection of stories about famous NASCAR drivers and their pets with great photos and interest notes. You can order a copy on Ryan's foundation website. Good luck to all of the drivers and may they have a SAFE race and may the best man win (GO JEFF AND RYAN).

Well, Sophie went to her bi-weekly weigh-in yesterday. According to the schedule that dad laid out (http://bumpasshounds.blogspot.com/2009/02/toot-toot-im-blowing-my-own-horn.html), Sophie's target weight for yesterday was 109 lbs. Well guess what? Soph hit the scales at a lean & mean 108 lbs. Way to go Sophie. We all continue to support Sophie; Boru steals string beans out of her feed bowl, Shelby Belle and Jack steal her rawhide chews, and the rest of us swipe whatever we can from her food distribution. We're proud of Sophie's effort and the progress she's making. She has maintained a very good attitude during her diet and we know that it must be difficult at times.

Please take a minute to check out the video about the Australian animals affected by the ravaging wild Bush Fires sweeping through the south eastern State of Victoria. Our friends Charlie, Opy and Huffle all live in Victoria; fortunately they are all safe, but many animals, both domestic and wild, are homeless and/or hurt and need our help. We know times are tough for everyone, but they shouldn't be that hard for anyone. Please help if you possibly can. Thank you.

Congratulations Sophie! wooowwwooo..you are ahead of the schedule. I think they can let you have all your own green beans now. Yummy. They are my favorite part of a diet.

I don't know anything about NASCAR but I'll support those two drivers. Well done Sophie! Excellent news! And thanks once again for caring for us all down here :)

Oh hey! I finally remembered to sign your guestbook too!

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
