GUNNER'S RESCUE TRANSPORT

SOPHIE & BORU

Hey Hounders,
Sophie and Boru here with a quick update on dad's rescue transport run he did on Friday. The Charlottesville-Albermarle SPCA had a Golden Retriever named Gunner who is available for adoption. Unfortunately, Gunner has food aggression issues and the SPCA shelter wasn't equipped to handle the situation. This particular SPCA is a no kill shelter so it was decided to relocate Gunner to the Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary in Delray, WV. Our dad volunteered to do the transport and dedicated the trip to our departed blog buddy Spencer. Dad took the newly repaired Rescue Wagon for the trip. he left at about 10:15 AM for Charlottesville. He met a very nice young man named Ryan who did the transfer paperwork and then took dad to fetch Gunner from his kennel. The Charlottesville-Albermarle SPCA facility is quite new and is very modern. Dad said it kinda looks like a new house from the front but it has all modern kennels laid out behind it. Each animal has a covered outside area as well as an attached inside environmentally controlled area. A positionable dog door between the two sections can be closed to restrict a dog to one side or the other to ease cleaning. Dad says that the entire facility was spotless and sanitary. Dad took a few photos of the exterior. Gunner is a good looking boy and dad says he was no trouble at all; he slept most of the way in the large crate in the back of the RESWGN. Dad left the SPCA at about 11:00 AM and got up to AHGRR at about 2:30 PM. He had to gab with Ms. Carol and Mr. Skip because they are really nice people. He visited for a little while with Cody who he had transported to AHGRR last October. Cody is still waiting to find his furever home. Well dad left at about 3:00 PM to come home and arrived at about 6:00 PM after covering a little over 300 miles. Gunner is safe and sound at AHGRR and should be up on their adoptable dogs list in a week or two.

Your Dad went the extra 299 miles to help some furbabies! That's fabulous and we love him for it!

What a GReat transport! Spencer would be very happy. We're doing a transport this weekend ourselves for rescue, what a coincidence. It's too bad there are so many that need help. Keep up the good work BHs!

much love,

What a good thing for your dad to do. Gunnar is very handsome, hopefully he will find a furever home soon. Cute picture of Sophie and Boru.

Thanks for all the good work your family does. It is fun to talk about different rescues and different approaches. In one note to me you mentioned that your rescue kennel is getting full and you will have to start using foster homes. At Golden Retriever Rescue here, we take the opposite approach. No Golden behind chain link is the goal. We have hundreds of foster home volunteers and we use the kennels only when we run out of foster homes or when a rescue is late at nite or we bring in several orphans at once. Then we foster them out. Most adoptions are from a foster home or with appointments back at the kennels.
Either way, the goal is to rescue needy dogs and find them homes. Keep on helping, all of us rescues appreciate it.

What a nice thing for your dad to do. We're glad he had a safe trip.

But we're still perplexed. We still aren't receiving your updates for some reason.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
