TUESDAY GOUGE*

*U.S. Navy Slang
In U.S. Navy jargon, gouge is the essential piece of information; the heart of the matter; or outstanding test-preparation material (such as an old test copy). A person who is tired of hearing all the extraneous information surrounding a problem might exclaim "Just give me the gouge!"
Originated at the U.S. Naval Academy and introduced from there into the wider navy, where it sees less frequent usage.

WASSUP? (<---Click to find out.)
It's Bodacious Alexander Beau-Maine, a.k.a. "Alex" here with a TBH news round up.
Today is our blog buddy Gus Dagger's birthday. Stop over at his BLOG and leave him Happy Birthday wishes please.

Our buddy Ms. Sarah A. Ferrell, who trained Rusty, Penny, Jubal and J.E.B. in her "Dog Manners Behavior and Obedience" classes, has won A Major Award. No kidding; you can read all about it in this article: http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2009/022009/02142009/445571
All twelve of us, especially Jubal and J.E.B., want to send her our congratulations. We promise not to let any of the award givers that might stop by here see J.E.B. in action so that they won't want to take her award back. J.E.B. is kind of a free spirit and he "marches to the beat of a different drum" as they say. We'll only let them see Jubal with his Canine Good Citizen Ribbon. You can check out "Devoted To Dogs," the book that Sarah wrote, over in our right margin somewhere.

Our very bestest blog buddy from L.A., Spencer, posted on his blog today to let us know that he is still alive and kicking. We worry about Spencer a lot and hold him in our nightly howls to DOG. Please stop by his blog and say "hello" and leave him a few words of encouragement.

Our mom is going to college to get an Associates Degree as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) . She is working real hard and doing lots of studying. She had to really buckle down to do it, but she passed her animal anatomy course after a somewhat rocky start. Now she can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it isn't the inbound Anatomy Special barreling down on her anymore. As part of her curriculum she has to work 96 hours with "large animals." We thought that dad would just lock her out in the paddock with Shiloh for a week and that would be that. Unfortunately, the school didn't mean 96 hours working with "large dofusses." So mom called a farm a few miles from us and was able to arrange an internship working with Alpacas http://www.sorbiefarmalpacas.com/. We're not sure what Alpacas are, but they leave really strange smells all over mom's clothes and boots. Jack kinda freaked out the first time she got back from working there. I guess Alpacas are large animals because they're big and not dogs. Mom says Shiloh probably is bigger than a lot of the Alpacas. We glad that mom is practicing on the Alpacas and not on The Bumpasses. Well that's about it for today. Don't forget about all the Australian animals that need help. Say a few prayers for our buddy Spencer and his HM and HD; this is a very difficult time for them. Here's picture of Spencer:

You might not have seen on your news but there was a whole farm of alpacas that survived the fires, even though the farms right around theirs all burnt! And a baby was born the very next day!

I purr for Spencer and his mum and dad.

Oh, and I hope your mum finishes her Associate Degree soon too!

I'm leaving all my comments here because Bloggie is being stoopid again. What Happened to Alex(?) ??. Looks like he had a run in with Teka! Or two. Or did he have a friend(s) removed. Poor baby, those are no fun. Speaking from experience, of course.

And thanks for the BarkDay Bark OUt. We hope your mom does super stupendous with the All Pack as.

Oooohhh...alpacas, another type of big dogs.

Please tell your mum that we wish her every success in her studies.

Love,
Homer

You pups (and kitties) sound busy! I bet you have to help your mom do all sorts of studying. Does she give you practice exams? I think that would be okay as long as she is also practicing the art of handing out cookies to her patients.

We never passed training school either, even though we went to classes for about 10 months. We are good at everything except walking properly on a leash. We are sled dogs! We don't heel! So your trainer for sure wouldn't want us on her resume!

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
