Hey Hounders,
It's me, Jack (a.k.a. Yakity Yack). Us Bumpass Hounds are usually pretty well behaved (I said "pretty"). We are not allowed to beg; begging is considered to be bad behavior. We have had a meeting and we have all (yes all 12 of us are in agreement -even the stupid kitties) voted to be bad this weekend. We are going to beg. We apologize in advance for doing this, but we can't see any way around it. We know from listening to dad rant after reading the news that things are tough all over the world economically. Things are especially difficult for a large number of domestic pets. People are having to give up or abandon their pets because of the economic conditions. The shelters are all seeing increased drop offs and a drop off in pickups/adoptions. If you've spent any time perusing our site you know that we have a deep commitment to the Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRR) in Delray, WV. Well, AHGRR is feeling the pinch and needs some immediate help or innocent Goldens, and other dogs, will not receive the assistance that they require. We seriously doubt that President Obama will be doing a bailout for AHGRR or that AHGRR will be targeted in the Stimulus Package. So we have decided to beg to you, the Hounders of the world. Many of you know that we all lost a great and special friend this week. Spencer went to The Rainbow Bridge this last Tuesday. Spencer was a rescue dog and he also helped rescue other Goldens. So without any of Spencer's family's permission or encouragement we are "begging" that you consider making a donation to AHGRR rescue in Spencer's honor and memory. Here's how it works:

"In Memory" or "In Honor" Donations
AHGRR offers "in memorial" or "in honor" cards to anyone who makes a donation and would like notification sent to someone. These are not fancy, but they are personalized as AHGRR prints them individually for each person. All they need from the donor, youse guys, is the wording you would like on your card, and the name and address to send it to (Don't sweat that as we have provided AHGRR with Spencer's Family's home address). In addition to the card, your memorial will also be posted on the AHGRR donors webpage, and if you wish to sponsor a dog in memorial or in honor of someone, AHGRR will post that information along with your name next to the animal you sponsor.

Remember - these gifts can be for a birthday, anniversary, graduation - just about anything. And, they would be so appreciated here.

Here is a picture of the front of our card. And this is a sample of the inside - which can be modified to fit any occasion and individual situations:

Again, thank you to everyone who has supported AHGRR. If you can spare a few extra dollars, we would deeply appreciate it. Donations can be made via paypal donation buttons on our website over in the right margin (you can use your credit card here, or your checking account), or can be mailed to:

Unfortunately, we will probably be being bad by begging for a couple of more days. We apologize and hope that no one is truly offended by our bad behavior.

We miss you Spencer and hope that you don't mind our begging in your name.
We got caught being bad. We got an e-mail from Spencer's mom and this is what she said that we want to pass on to all you Hounders:
Thank you for all your kindness and beautiful words in our time of healing. We are amazed at the outpouring of love we have come to have, all because of Spencer.
It is a great honor for us that our boy is an official Bumpass Hound and your post today for rescue donations in his name is perfect. It is another way for Spencer for help spread love to others and we applaud your rescue efforts.
Our home is empty without Spencer's paws clicking on the hardwood floors and his presence at our every step. We miss him dearly and have cried more tears than imaginable, but through those tears have smiled many times at all the wonderful memories of our great times together. After a small break, we will again foster for rescue and I know eventually that perfect fit will happen again and we will joyfully welcome another Golden into our family.
Yesterday a brand new tennis ball was positioned perfectly under my chair in the library, one of Spencer's favorite spots. I think it is a sign form him and we've put it along with 2 others in his memory box.
Thanks you for your friendship. Please give all your dogs and kitties a big hug from us.
Much Love,
Michelle & Spencer
We feel privleged to have blogged with Spencer. We thank his HM and HD for sharing him with us all. We also thank them for not being mad at us for being bad during our Begathon weekend.

I think it's probably okay to beg for a very good cause, and this is one of those.

Hi Bumpass Hounds - I think that's a very nice thing to do, and Spencer would be proud. I sure will miss him. Thanks for your advice on letting Zeke blog. Okay, maybe I'll let him give it a try...

We got screwed up and made the donation directly to the organization. I told you muzzer was senile! What do we do now. That very nice Carol person at the golden rescue group will do whatever you suggest.

Hi Homer and gang,

Have you got the specific link for the special made card for Spencer?

We think it's wonderful you're being so bad this weekend. (Especially since we've been begging too.) That's a very good cause and donating in Spencer's memory is a great idea. His HD and HM sound like very kind and loving humans.

We agree with Huffle, it's totally fine to beg for a good cause. That's what we do for Blogathon. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the link for my mom. She doesn't fly much right now and is kind of wimpy about only flying in good weather, but with all the rain out here, it's good for her to know more about icing!

National Canine Cancer Foundation

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
