ALEX WENT TO THE VET WEDNESDAY :-(

ALEX TO THE VET

Heya Hounders,
Our LVT in training, mom, was practicing on us this past Monday (Memorial Day). She found a growth about the size of a dime on the left side of the inside of my mouth. I had a tumor removed from the lower right inside of my mouth about 3 years ago which turned out to be a non-malignant tumor. Mom is doing an internship at our vet so Tuesday she talked to Dr. Collins about me and Dr. Collins told mom to bring me to work yesterday (Wednesday). Dad put me in the carrier and stuck me in mom's car before he went to work. He crated me Tuesday night so that I wouldn't eat anything in case they did surgery on me. Dr. Collins examined me after lunch and discovered that I had an infected cyst. As Arnold sez in Kindergarten Cop, "It is Not a tumor." I got to take a very deep sleep nap and Dr. Collins lanced the cyst and drained it. She gave me a big dose of an antibiotic. When I woke up from my nap she told me to come back for a followup in 2 weeks. She talked to mom and basically told mom to keep an eye on me because if the cyst didn't stay shrunked that I might have to have it surgically removed. Anyway, I'm reaping a benefit of getting wet cat food, mixed grill pate' because my mouth might be too sore to chew kibble; not bad, not bad at all.
Our very sweet and beautiful, and most certainly mentally stable, girl Newf, Shiloh, wrote to the famous Dr. Steve about a slight case of doggie depression she was having due to a slight miscommunication with the rest of retrievers who think so highly of her. Dr. Steve has provided his expert diagnosis and prognosis based on a prescription that he wrote for Shi. Shi is the superest, bestest Landseer Newfoundland dog in the whole entire world; the universe even. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet:

So sad that your mouth had to have an operation. OUCH! But it sounds like your momma is taking really good care of you. Don't get well too fast, though, because milk your parents for all the treats you can get☺

Hope you're feeling better soon Alex... that sounds very painful. Enjoy the extra attention and special food while it lasts.

We hope Alex will be fine and have no problems.

As to Shi, we hope Dr. Steve's RX will encourage all her siblings to be nicer to her so she will be up again.

Thank you so much for this award! Wilbur still needs to post about the one you gave him. Don't worry, he hasn't forgotten, he says I've been monopolizing the blog with my new clinic and Kat has been posting about Whidbey Island adventures. That's all true, but I'm sure no one wants to hear from Wilbur anyway.

I really hope Alex's mouth gets better, although the rule about the wet catfood isn't all that bad. Wilbur has to go to the vet in June. Mom's dreading it because he is a horrible patient. Maybe your mom should do a house call. :-)

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
