SUNDAY FUNNIES & STUFF

SUNDAY STUFF

Heya Hounders,
Jubal here, along with my feline friend Brian Boru. The weather this weekend has been great. We sure needed the break because this has been one of the wettest springs since we've all been in Bumpass. The paddock and Newf pen have been mud bowls and mom gave up trying to keep the house floor clean. We need a few of these sunny days to dry things up. Sophie and Radar went to Doc's hospital yesterday for their bi-weekly weigh-in. Radar is up to a whooping 35 lbs now. He is going back tomorrow for all of his puppy shots. Mom is doing an internship there so she's kinda like just bringing a puppy to work. Ms. Sophie hit her target of 82 lbs; congratulations Sophie. She has lost 65 lbs since June 2008 and is still 9 lbs BELOW her target weight. Mom is hoping to get Sophie down to about 75 lbs, there abouts, by the beginning of August.
In other news, I've been kinda in the proverbial doghouse this week for running away. I "used" to get to go out front with mom when she took Radar and Sophie out front to do their business. I always stuck around but this week I decided to explore the neighborhood and I've discovered a great place to go just a few houses down the street. Anyway, I ended up "running away" (mom's term, not mine) 3 times this week. I always come home, in about a half hour or so, so it's not really "running away." It's more like taking an extended walkie all by myself. Of course I don't do it when dad takes us out because he's not as much of a pushover as mom is. Yesterday dad took me down the street to see where I've been going and low and behold, as we got to the cul-de-sac I bolted down the driveway of a house that's for sale. This house is lakefront property and I was headed for my secret swimmin' hole that I had discovered. Dad had brought the camera and took a picture of me in my secret place. I had joined a party of people who were swimming in my secret spot; I think they live in one of the houses at my swimmin' hole. I had a good time but dad told mom not to take me out front anymore so that I can't "run away." Dad says he is only concerned about my welfare because I jump in off of a seawall and it's a bit tricky getting out of the swimmin' hole. I told dad that if he and mom just took us down to the boat ramp more often we wouldn't have to "run away." He said "point taken" whatever that means.

Congratulations Sophie! We are proud of you for sticking to the plan. And muzzer is in awe of folks who can resist giving you treats! We got a muzzer who is a real sucker for doggie eyes.

And Jubal...ttsch ttsch. No more exploring please.

We would get into big trouble if we ran away too. We are never allowed off leash because Mom and Dad are afraid of that happening. I'm glad nothing bad happened to you while you were exploring!

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
