E-MAILS FROM SHILO

NOT FROM OUR SHILOH;
FROM THAT SHILO.

Hey Hounders,
J.E.B. , otherwise known as Jebbie-Roo-Hoo, here today making a rare posting appearance. Our dad somehow got us a copy of a new book last week. He got it from a Golden Retriever named Shilo. Our Shiloh is definitely not a Golden Retriever as most of you probably know. The "bag lady" is a rather hefty Landseer Newfoundland dog so it shouldn't be difficult to differentiate. The Shiloh, with the "h" at the end for "hefty" is the Newf; the Shilo without the "h" is the Golden Retriever. Anyway, our new friend Shilo is a celebrity; that's dog more prominent in social circles than most of us. Shilo is a published author and he sent dad a copy of his book. The book is titled "E-Mails From Shilo" which is fitting because it has a lot of Shilo's emails. Just like "Marley and Me" was a compilation of newspaper columns, "E-Mails From Shilo" is a compilation of e-mails. Dad sat down in the kitchen and read the book to us. Guess what? It's a very good book; not "The Good Book" but a very good book. All of us inside dogs (i.e.: not Max and Shiloh) really enjoyed it, We asked Boru if he'd give it a "Boru Recommended" endorsement and he kinda chuckled and said he "doesn't do dog books." But the rest of us liked it and we had a quorum to give it a "Bumpass Hounds Recommended" endorsement. This book would make a swell gift for kids; not infants or toddlers, the kids that can read but not drive cars or date yet; the pesky ones. There isn't anything cruel, really bad or gruesome in the book. Reading "E-Mails From Shilo" is way better than being a couch potato or video game vegetable. It actually can provide some insight. Anyway, dad said we can't get too commercial and be overly aggressive like used car salesmen (not offense intended to all you used car guys out there). You can read a sample of the book and if you like it you can buy your own copy either in an Internet download or a book copy. It's a soft cover book about 8.5" X 11"and about 90 pages. You can read the sample at:

When we have finished the entire book we think that dad is gonna make us submit book reports on it. He wants everything to be a life or teaching experience. YUCK!

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
