SATURDAY FUN QUIZ

Hey Hounders,
It's me, Abby, with today's post. You know that throughout history around the world there have many many stories, books, poems, movies and theater presentations that have involved well known animals, both actual and fictitious. We animals have been the subject of many myths, legends and historical fact. Here is a photograph of a statue that memorializes one such animal, a dog. I have a few quiz questions for y'all to answer. I'll post the answers in tomorrow's blog.

1. Who is the subject of the statue?

2. What breed of dog is represented?

3. Where is the statue located?

4. Historical or fictitious?

Post your answers on a comment and check tomorrow to see how you do.

We think it is Grayfriar's Bobby who was a devoted terrier. We're not sure but we think the statue is somewhere in the UK. The story of the dog is true and not fiction at all.

Wow, Mom doesn't know this one at all and she loves doggy movies(unless they are too sad). We will come back tomorrow and check.

1. Greyfriar's Bobby
2. Skye Terrier or Cairn terrier... I can't remember.
3. Edinburgh (sp?) Scotland right in front of the bar with the same name!
4. Historical. Kind of a sad story, actually. About a dog that sat next to his owner's grave for a decade or so.

Greyfriars Bobby, http://www.greyfriarsbobby.co.uk/, who was a skye terrier and stayed by his master's grave in Greyfriars Cemetery in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK for fourteen years.

We talked about him last night on our walkies.

The other commenters are correct. It is Greyfriars Bobby. And all your questions have already been answered so we won't repeat them.

Woo. I asked Ammy for help, and she said it was one of the Flying Monkeys from the Wizard of Oz. I think she's pulling my leg. Woo.

Well, we have no idea. It sounds like a few pups think they have it figured out, but I like Dave's comment about the Wizard of Oz. Maybe it's a statue of Toto?

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
