AROUND THE HOUSE

FIRST AND FOREMOST,
CONGRATULATIONS KONA
(YIPPEE SKIPPY - YIPPEE SKIPPY - YIPPE SKIPPY)
SOPHIE'S CHOICE

Hey Hounders,
Sophie (Doph) pounding the keyboard today. First, if you haven't heard about Kona yet (Are we the only ones that didn't get the memo?) check it out at the above posted blogsite and then come back here; that's way more important than our boring news. Dad's a bit under the weather and is really hoping he just has a cold and not the flu. He says that he feels like one of our stuffies. He's making lots of disgusting man sounds and coughing a lot. Fortunately, it hasn't inhibited him from doing the important things around the house like feeding us, giving us pets and, most importantly, furnishing our treats.
I got my big Happy Hearts Cookie the other day. Dad has had it in the freezer but he figured it was time to dispense them so the Big Name Cookie spent a day in the refrigerator to defrost a bit before he handed them out. He decided to record the event for posterity but he had trouble getting the lighting right, hence two photos of me with my cookie before I devoured it. One shows the cookie better and one shows me better (of course). Dad thought it would be entertaining if I did my dinner prance for a video. If you haven't had the grand experience of chomping down on a Happy Hearts Cookie then your peeps are depriving you of one of the greatest treats in all of dogdom. You won't believe how many different kinds of flavors that Happy Hearts come in. They have been rigorously Bumpass Hounds tested and got The Bumpass Hounds Seal Of Approval (Grade A+++).
Every time dad puts together our breakfast or dinner I get to inspect the bowls and help him out. Dad calls it my Hi-Ho-Silver Dinner Prance. When I first joined the Bumpass Hounds last October, I weighed 132 lbs and I wasn't able to do stuff like this; I was pretty much a blob on the kitchen floor. Now that I'm down in the 75 lb range I have a lot more energy and can kinda bounce around.

THE HUFFLE BOX

Here are two more photos of the stuff from the surprise package that we got from Huffle. We got a GReat 2010 Amazing Australia Calendar that we decided to give to mom and dad (per Huffle's instructions). The cover of the calendar has a photgraph of Uluru, also referred to as Ayers Rock. It shows all the dates when people in Australia get their government pensions and other stipends. It also has the Australian holidays (of course). Radar was pinging off the walls around the house with The Chewers Tough Ball On A Rope which he obviously stole from Jubal. I expect that it is now a doomed toy in that Radar is a lot like Homer and me when it comes to "playing" with chew toys. Chew = Destroy.

MONDAY MYSTERY GUEST:

Play along with us trying to guess the Monday Mystery guest from our list of followers. We'll be asking for your responses on Sunday (tomorrow). This week's MG clues given so far are:

1. - The MG probably likes old Keystone cop movies.

2.- Something about the MG implies strength.

3.- Sing along with the MG to "A-B-Kh-D-E-F-G ... etc.

4.- The MG is often found napping under a big old tree in the backyard.

5.- The MG wears a warm coat.

6.- The MG is definitely NOT a big feline fan.

Today's Clue:

7.- The MG is a very good thinker and thanker.

NATIONAL DOG WEEK

The fourth week of September is National Dog Week! Go out of your way to show some extra attention and affection to that favorite dog in your life. If you don’t have a dog, consider adopting one. If that isn’t feasible, consider fostering for a rescue. Everyone should experience the love of a dog, and vice-versa.
Here are the top ten reasons to love a dog:

10. Dogs are always willing to play.
9. Dogs give the biggest, bestest, wettest kisses.
8. Dogs are a great way to stay healthy & active.
7. Dogs make great pillows!
6. Dogs have an uncanny knack of leaving you little surprises when you don’t need them the most.
5. Dogs keep your couch/chair/bed warm while you’re away.
4. Dogs are the first ones to greet you at the door when you come home.
3. Dogs are fierce protectors of their family and home.
2. A dog’s eyes say more than words ever could.
1. Dogs = unconditional love

We very strongly recommend that y'all pop over to visit Scout and Freyja to find out some GReat information about National Dog Week. While you're there, don't forget to listen to the song "Choose Me" by clicking on the song bar in the right side margin of their blog page. It is well worth your time and effort. We loved it and expect that you will too.

Love the dinner dance, Sophie. Daisy does spins, Mommy calls them canter pirouettes, because that's what dressage horses do. Isn't it great about Kona?

That is a great picture! I didn't know there was a National Dog Week. You guys know all of the good stuff. You also have a very clever dad who knows to take you to a lake to bathe. I wish I had a lake for Africa!

Dave does a similar dance while our meals are being prepared - he goes even higher. I think mom should cut down on the joint supplements. HA roo roo roo!
Us Army folk and you Navy folk may disagree about some things - like who's going to win the big game! - but we can all agree that Happy Hearts ROCK!!! 'Course we like our straight from the freezer. You guys must be a bit more fragile. :)

Sophie-
That is one heck of a dance. You didn't even put a paw on the counter....nicely done. I will need to work on the peeps to check out the cookies.

Sophie so deserves that cookie...look at the beauty she has transformed into (all that dancing probably helps too!). Thanks for sharing our Kona news, he's a sweet bot, we're sure all the BHs would love him. Hope your dad feeles better soon...chicken soup helps, really!

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
