TRASHY TERRAIN TUESDAY

OPENING OUR SURPRISE PACKAGE

Hey Hounders,
It's Abby, along with my good buddy Boru, doing today's post. We want to start today with where we left off yesterday in regard to our surprise package. We received a really GReat "Paw It Forward" package from none other than Huffle Mawson from down in Melbourne, Australia. This is only the 2nd surprise package that we've received and it sure is a super duper collection of stuff for both dogs and kitties as well as something for the peeps. Boru wants to claim all of the cat stuff, but dad says that he'll have to share with Jenny and Alex. Alex has already gone nutso over the cat stuff so Boru will have to "discuss" his options with Alex. What was the name of that movie? "There will be blood" or something like that. When we pulled out the bubble wrap in the box we were greeted by none other than a beautiful portrait of Huffle herself. Huffle takes a GReat photograph and her photo and note are very much appreciated. The flashy beast trainer did a GReat job with the artistic shadows and such. There is a very even distribution of cat vs. dog items in the package so that will minimize inter species "discussions" somewhat (probable not entirely though). Dad immediately segregated the kitty toys and put them in the gated living room so that us dogs can't kill them. They have a rather odd odor on them that seems to interest both Boru and Alex but doesn't do much for the dogs. There is a white Koala Bear that was a big hit with the Alpha B#tch, which would be our mom. It's on top of mom's dresser, primarily so that neither Sophie "Shredder" or Homer "Hacker" kill the poor thing. Those two are to stuffies as the delinquent neighbor Sid is to the toys in Toy Story; in fact, he looks like an SPCA caretaker in comparison. The yellow and purple stuffie bone might last 10 or 15 minutes once it's released for "play" time. There is a very hard blue rubber chew shape that Jubal and Sophie favor and it looks indestructible. There is a Chewers red Ball on a Rope that Jubal is constantly carrying around the house but Radar has taken a liking to it so there may be "discussions." It is really a GReat assortment of toys and we want Huffle and her mom to know how much we appreciate their efforts. We hope that we can do near as well when we "Paw It Forward." We'll have more on the Surprise Package on following posts.

TRASHY TERRAIN TUESDAY
Well, it's once again that time of the week when we tour the historic Bumpass Hounds Estate Gardens. Inspired by The Army of Four Scenic Sunday Tours of the Manhattan Manor Butchard Gardens Annex, we delve into the intricacies of the "natural" wonders of rural Virginia landscape features as showcased in our front yard, back yard, swale ditch, septic drain field, Retriever paddock, and Newfie pen. Occasionally we might venture out into the feed run (creek) out behind the paddock depending on the mud conditions.

Here on the top left below is the unique and often duplicated but never replicated potted coleus. This is one of the Estate's prime decorative plants. It may seem a bit wilted due to lack of rainfall and/or watering, but it quickly restores itself upon absorption of non-urinary moisture. On the top right we have the hardy fern hanging on the front porch. Any plant this green and leafy in our yard is definitely of a hardy variety. The lower left is our walled rock garden area of day lilies, ivy, hydrangeas and stuff that dad didn't know where else to put. He says that "someday" he'll relocate everything to a location in the landscaping plan that he will "someday" complete. The below right photo is the antenna farm for electronic communication with the more urban areas of the country. Dad's plan is to "someday" sculpt the ground area around the tree and electronic fixtures and mulch it over so as to de-emphasize the weeded ground area.

MONDAY MYSTERY GUEST:
Yesterday's MG clues:
1. - The MG probably likes the old Keystone cop movies.
2. - Something about the MG implies strength.
Today's clues:
3. Sing along with the MG to "A - B - Kh - D - E -F -G ........ etc.
4. The MG is often found napping under the very big old tree in the back yard.

What a cool package from Huffle! She's the best, as far as cats go.

I need to show you a picture of my fern. It'd dead on the ends where I water it.

Wowzers, isn't Huffle the sweetest!!? She's so cool. And generous!
We'd show you pictures of our hydrangea - we had three of them. Note the past tense. Our RABBIT "friend" Oswald ATE all three of them. Took them down completely! HRUMPH!
Play bows,
Zim

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
