MONDAY MYSTERY GUEST

HEY DAD, THERE'S A BIG DEAD RAT IN OUR FRONT YARD.

Hey Hounders,
Jubal here with an item of interest. One night last week, dad let me, Jack and Sophie out the front door. He followed after us a bit later. We all saw this thing down at the end of our steps in the front yard. When we got up close it appeared to be a GReat big rat. We were poking at it with our snoots when dad came out. He shooed us away and bent over to look at what appeared to be a big dead rat. He then went around back and got a shovel that he propped up against the front wall of the house. Then he went back inside and came back out with a plastic trash bag and the camera. He took another close look at the dead rat and then he put the trash bag over by the shovel and then came back and took a couple of pictures of the dead rat. Then he said that if we were done with our business we'd all go into bed. He said that he would come out and check on the dead thing in the morning before letting us out. If it was still there (duh!) he'd shovel it into the trash bag and put it in the trash barrel behind the house before he'd let us out. Well in the morning dad went outside but was only gone a short while before returning to let us out. He said that the dead rat had been neither a rat nor had it been dead. He said it was a Virginia Opossum and it had just been pretending to be dead so that we wouldn't make it really dead. The possum had skedaddled during the night after we all went back into the house. That possum was really good at acting dead. Dad said that he had verified his suspicions on the net at: http://home.att.net/~larvalbugrex/opossum.html Here's one of the pictures that dad took out in the yard that night.

MONDAY MYSTERY GUEST:
Remember, the MG is one of our followers listed at the top of our blog. These are the clues we gave y'all for this week's and the connection to the Monday Mystery Guest:
1.- Some would say that the MG is "The End. "
The MG's name can be translated to "The End."
2.- The MG is big on grooming.
The MG's blog always shows the MG tending to appearances.
3.- The MG is an aspiring author, as yet unpublished.
The MG has submitted a manuscript to a publisher in hopes of becoming a published author and then getting filthy rich and having a Broadway musical and major motion picture adapted from the book.
4.- A tabloidesque title infers the MG is secretive at home.
The MG's blogsite title is "Housecat Confidential" which is like "L.A. Confidential" or something you'd see in one of those "newspapers" at the supermarket check out.
5.- The MG probably favors Nellis Thunderbirds over Los Angeles azul.
The U.S. Navy's "Blue Angels" flight demonstration squadron is based in Pensacola FL and the U.S. Air Force's "Thunderbirds" flight demonstration squadron is based in Las vegas, NV.
6.- The MG has proof of the Floof.
The MG has a fine floofy coat that is always being tended to.
7.- The MG's favorite Elvis movie is Viva Floof Vegas.
The MG resides in the urban dessert surrounding Las Vegas, NV.

I found one of them in my playard. It was under a chair, and I was barking and doing play bows, and everything, I was all happy! I thought it was a playdate! Then mom came out and looked, and I had to go in. Those things have 50 teeth. I know that because mom works sometimes at the Pittsburgh Zoo. One bit her once on the neck - big bruise! BOL! she doesn't hold them anymore.

You guys sure do have a lot of adventures. That link you have listed is very interesting. It would have really been something if the plastic bag, shovel and possum all had been gone in the morning.

Wowowow! I have never seen a possum! Super cool!
I am very manly in that I like to sniff around dead stuffs like birds and mices. Old Girl gets real upset about that.
Good job on the spotting!

Holy Mackerel!!! <---Mmmmm, mackerel. An opposum?!? He sure looks deaded, that is so weird they do that! What a GRRR-8 plan, maybe we should try that when the flashy box comes outs!

Those possums are here too. Thunder had one in the yard last winter that nearly scared the living daylights out of Mom. After she ushered us pups inside, she tried to move the "dead" possum to a shovel when it suddenly jumped up and moved away. Mom shrieked and dropped the shovel. Glad you all left it alone because we hear they can be pretty nasty critters.

Woos, the OP Pack

Wow that is crazy about that possum. The only time I have seen one is when it was sitting on our fence - it had to be alive to balance up there.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.
