Hey Hounders,
Radar, Voting Team Captain here. We're still ranked #4 in West Virginia, but we have moved up to #286 in the national ranking. Please keep voting because every little vote counts and helps. We are really thankful to y'all for doing this. Please vote now and then continue with the blog. You can read all about it at the bottom of this post.

Homer J. (all the way) here with some special news about us. Y'all know that there are some people that dedicate their lives to helping unfortunate dogs like I used to be. Dogs and cats that have no homes. Others do different, but just as important, things to help animals. The Land of Pure Gold Foundation is an organization working to eradicate canine cancer. How appropriate that this comes up now because November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month. So we are fulfilling our civic duty by making you aware of Pet Cancer. Unfortunately, many of y'all don't need us to make you aware because a very high percentage of dogs succumb to cancer every year. Golden Retrievers, like myself, are prone to the disease. In fact, shortly after I joined The Bumpass Hounds dad discovered a lump on my right side and took me to see Doc Witter at Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital (CRAH). The vets aspirated my lump and it was decided to surgically remove the growth and a good portion of surrounding tissue. Doctor Collins did my surgery and she did a mighty fine job. She is a perfectionist with her stitches and staples. Turns out it was a good think that I got that lump remove because it got an "F" in its' biopsy test. That was a couple of years ago and I've been fine ever since so I guess that makes me a canine cancer survivor. I had to wear a sweat shirt for a few weeks so that neither me nor my sibs could "clean" the sutures. I'll post some photos of my incision so y'all can see what a good job CRAH did on me. But I digress; back to Land of Pure Gold. A very nice lady, Ms. Rochelle Lesser, is the Founder & President, Land of PureGold Foundation, Inc. You can visit the website at to find out about all of the GReat work that Rochelle does. It is well worth your time and effort to explore the website, especially if you have a dog that is affected by canine cancer. Rochelle has a blog of her own for Land of PureGold and she just happens to subscribe to our blog. We are honored to have been mentioned in her blog the other day; it's kinda like our 15 minutes in the spotlight sort of speak. You can read her post about us at:
Please stop over and thank her, not for reading and writing about us, for all of the time and effort she has expended in such worthwhile endeavors to help find cure for canine cancer and to help those animals afflicted by the disease. She's like the Jerry Lewis of the Golden Retriever world only a whole lot prettier.
Here are some photos of me after my surgery:

Remember, the MG is one of our followers listed at the top of our blog. These are the clues we've given y'all so far for this week's Monday Mystery Guest:
1.- The MG is hard to see in a snow storm.
The MG is as white, if not as pure, as snow.
2.- To us, the MG is what Gilligan was to the Skipper.
We call him our "little buddy."
3.- The MG ponders: "To foo or not to foo; that is the question."
The MG is little dog, in stature only.
4.- The AKC suggests that the MG "is a small, sturdy, white powder puff of a dog whose merry temperament is evidenced by his plumed tail....." (How can they use "sturdy' and "puff" in the same descriptive sentence? - Duh.)
The breed of dog is white
5.- Is The MG really "a curly toy dog" as the literal translation of the MG's french breed name suggests?
Bichon Frise translate as a curly toy dog, which definitely fits the MG.
6.- The MG's blog is simply a folly.
Follies is in the MG's blog title.
7.- The MG's name rhymes with:
1. a color - red,
2. thing you sleep on - bed,
3. an FBI agent - fed,
4. to get married- wed,
5. a really heavy metal - lead,
6. something not alive -dead,
7. what's on top of your shoulders - head,
8. Mr. Beatty's name -Ned,
9. the Clampett patriarch - Jed,
10. Mr. Turner's name - Ted,
11. escaped - fled, and
12. words that have been spoken - said.
"FRED" rhymes with all of those words.

How many of yous hounders guessed Fred of Fred's Follies is the Monday Mystery Guest ? If you did then you are absolutely correct.
Please stop by at Fred's blog and say hello. Tell him we sent you over.

This Monday Mystery Guest is, as always, chosen from amongst our followers listed at the top of ou blog so that narrows down the problem considerably. here's your first clue:
1. - The MG is NOT a quadruped.
Life Lessons From Boru:

Life isn't like a box of chocolates. It's more like a jar of jalapenos. What you do today, might burn your butt tomorrow.

Please go to this website:
The webpage is somewhat temperamental but the above link is correct. Please give the page enough time to fully load to "Done" before proceeding. Then we want you to enter the following red data into the boxes provided:
Shelter Name: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue
Country: United States
State: WV
City: Capon Bridge
Then click on "Search." The page will then do its' thing and will end up showing the location of AHGRR: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. Capon Bridge, WV 26714. And, more importantly, a "VOTE" button will appear. Click on the "VOTE" button. You will then have to identify a particular animal in a photo to confirm your vote; this eliminates machine voting. You then will be thanked for your vote to indicate that your vote has registered. You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization. Voting begins on September 14th, 2009, and ends at midnight (PST) on December 20th, 2009. The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! The homeless pets awaiting adoption at Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary are counting on us.

Also what in that case it is necessary to do?

National Canine Cancer Foundation

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
