SAVING OLD GOLD

MISS SNICKERS
Our blogging buddy Gus in Memphis has lost one of his dearest friends. Miss Snickers went to The Rainbow Bridge yesterday because of Lymphoma. Like our brother Chance, she was only 7 years old when stricken with the evil cancer. She was truly a most loved dog in her family. Her passing will be felt deeply by family and friends alike. She brought together many individuals and her life has made a difference. She left the world a better place for her short time among us. If you can, please take the time to stop by her blog and leave your condolences. Thank you.
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this – the last battle – can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me ‘til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its’ last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR VOTES
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS

Maybe you've been asking yourself why are TBH&K such pains about this voting for AHGRR; they're always bugging us to vote. Well dad says that this picture he took on his Saturday Rescue Transport captures the scent (or was that essence) of it and pretty much says it all. We want your votes so that old senior Golden ladies and gentlemen, like King here, don't have to face the bleak future of the green needle at a well intentioned, but yet lonely and desolate, animal shelter. It is suspected that King was dumped on the street and reported as an abandoned dog when his elderly owner could no longer care for him. Fortunately the Animal Control Authority that picked him up turned him over to a caring shelter that held him for the obligatory 10 days to be claimed. When King wasn't claimed they contacted Ms. Carol at AHGRR to see if she could accepted King and, of course, she did. So our dad ferried him from the recovery shelter up to AHGRR. King has some major medical problems, probably due to his owners inability to afford proper veterinary treatment. Besides being partially blind and almost totally deaf, this 12 year old has serious ear infections and to top it all off, he has checked as heartworm positive. But he seems to otherwise be strong for his age. There will be a cost associated with treating King for his aliments and significant medication bills. A grant from The Animal Rescue Site would be used to offset these and similar expenses incurred to help these senior Goldens as well as to help feed the residents awaiting a furever home. That is why we want YOU to vote for AHGRR in the contest. Over this past weekend we were #4 in West Virginia and #249 nationally. This morning we are #3 in West Virginia and #233 nationally. With YOUR help we might be able to qualify for one of the grants being distributed among worthy shelters; AHGRR is worthy. Directions on how to vote are provided at the bottom of this post. We'll be posting more about dads lone rescue transport throughout the week; Khyra's mom did double duty on both Saturday and Sunday for multiple dogs so she worked harder and more often than our dad. please stop by Khyra's blog and thank her mom if you get a chance.

MONDAY MYSTERY GUEST:
This Monday Mystery Guest is, as always, chosen from amongst our followers listed at the top of our blog. These are the clues so far:

1. - The MG is NOT a quadruped. The MG is a triped (three footed) dog having had to have his left hind leg surgically removed. Doesn't slow him down though.

2. - The MG is a pack member. The MG is a member of a multiple dog pack in Southern California.

3. - The MG is a "special" GReat rescue. The MG is himself a rescue dog with a physical difference from most dogs.

4. - The MG and family are active in doing GReat things for homeless dogs. The MG's blog is resplendent with stories of transports and rescue of many Golden retrievers; numbered among them is our blog buddy Kona from LA LA Land.

5. - The MG keeps one of those long sharp poles that the Medieval Knights used close at hand. What's the name of that house for chickens to live in on a farm? Who's arguably the #1 golfer in the world? That would be a Lance, a Coop, and Tiger Woods; those are the names of the MG's fellow pack members.

6. - The MG has probably had recent influence from Italian Tourists. Marco and Simona, Paco, Milo &Maya's mom and dad, recently visited southern California and many blogger buddies.

7.- The MG has something in common with the Palace of Westminster in London.
The large bell in the clock tower is nicknamed "Big Ben."

So this was actually pretty easy; this week's Monday Mystery guest is Ben from:
BEN
Here's a clue for this week's mystery guest:

1. The MG could be a barber shop singing group.

PLEASE VOTE FOR AHGRR
Please go to this website:
http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3

The webpage is somewhat temperamental but the above link is correct. Please give the page enough time to fully load to "Done" before proceeding. Then we want you to enter the following red data into the boxes provided:
Shelter Name: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue
Country: United States
State: WV
City: Capon Bridge
Then click on "Search." The page will then do its' thing and will end up showing the location of AHGRR: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. Capon Bridge, WV 26714. And, more importantly, a "VOTE" button will appear. Click on the "VOTE" button. You will then have to identify a particular animal in a photo to confirm your vote; this eliminates machine voting. You then will be thanked for your vote to indicate that your vote has registered. You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization. Voting began on September 14th, 2009, and ends at midnight (PST) on December 20th, 2009. The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! The homeless pets awaiting adoption at Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary are counting on us

What a handsome hunk of Old Gold!

Did he get some Rold Gold pretzels?

Mom says to paw how she's blushing - and even though she leaves me fur about four hours each time, I know she's a good hooman - unlike some of the hoomans her passengers have known -

Your MG is a furry handsome hunk of gold too!

Happy Monday!

We are sad to hear of the passing of Miss Snickers. She was a furry brave girl who stayed as long as she could. :o( And that poem id beautiful! We lost our beloved sisfur, Scooter(RIP), in April, to cancer as well, so the poem really hit home.

That picture of the Senior Mr. King say so much about why rescue is important and donating to Rescue is so important.
Thanks for helping so much.
So sorry to hear of Miss Snickers making her trip to the Rainbow Bridge.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
