AHGRR Rescue Dog

WHY YOUR VOTE MATTERS
Hey Hounders, it's the blind Golden Retriever, Radar, with my daily sales pitch as to why it is important for YOU to vote. It is very important that you check out the last item at the bottom of the post about voting for Almost Heaven Golden Retrievers Rescue & Sanctuary (AHGRR) in The Animal Rescue Site monetary grant balloting. AHGRR is the reason I'm alive and here to bug you; they're the reason that Homer J. and Abby are here too. They also rescued Gordon who is our beloved brother at The Rainbow Bridge, AHGRR could sure use the grant money to pay for food and medicines and veterinary care for the homeless dogs awaiting a furever home. AHGRR was up to #200 nationwide yesterday. If you can sponsor a dog or maybe make a donation, please visit the AHGRR website
http://www.almostheaven-golden-retriever-rescue.org/

If you can't do those things then maybe you could take a minute or two and vote for AHGRR as shown at the bottom of this post. Need a reason; use Shaggy. Shaggy has been at AHGRR for a while waiting to be adopted into his furever home. It sure would be a swell holiday for him if he could find his furever home or maybe at least find a temporary sponsor. Remember, dogs are NOT Christmas presents, they are a lifetime commitment. Here's the biography on Shaggy:
Nine year old Shaggy came to rescue with his littermate. In spite of having been together their entire lives, these two dogs seem to do best when they are separated. Shaggy would like nothing better than to be some special person's best friend. Shaggy is up-to-date with routine shots and he is neutered. This dog is very affectionate. If you would like to offer Shaggy a forever home, please submit an application which you can download from our website (http://www.almostheaven-golden-retriever-rescue.org/) Please mail or email it to us.

ABBY'S EASY TIPS FOR A PET-SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON

It's your pal Abby (Dabby-Do) with some today's helpful hint to help keep us pet healthy and safe during this holiday seasons. Starting on Thanksgiving things might be busy around the house here in the U.S. for the next few weeks. There may be parties and decorating going on in the house. Sometimes we pets can be a little too inquisitive and stick our noses, and mouths, where they don't belong. It's really up to our care givers to take a few precautions to make sure that we all have an enjoyable, and safe, holiday season so please make sure that your peeps read these tips from the SPCA.

Easy Tips for a Pet-Safe Holiday Season
“As you prepare for your holiday celebrations,” says Dr. Steven Hansen, Senior Vice President of ASPCA Animal Health Services, “remember to be wary of foods and traditions that can bring potential dangers to companion animals.” In honor of the joyous season to come, ASPCA poison control experts offer these essential tips for having pets at the party in a safe way:

Put the Medications Away
.

One of the most common holiday-related emergencies is the
consumption of human pharmaceuticals. Make sure all your medications are securely locked away, and be sure to tell your guests to keep their meds zipped up and packed away, too.

If your dog or cat accidentally ingests any potentially harmful products and you need emergency advice, please consult your veterinarian or the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 (a fee applies) or

MONDAY MYSTERY GUEST:
The Monday Mystery Guest is, as always, chosen from amongst our followers listed at the top of our blog. These are the clues so far:
1. - The MG could be a barber shop singing group.
2. - The MG helps those that are color blind.
3. - The MG has its' own meteorologist.
4. - The MG is like a newspaper; black and white and also red.
5. - To visit the land of the MG one need only click the heels of their ruby slippers together and say "There's no place like home" three times. But beware of Miss Gulch.
6.- The MG lives in a town named after a cocktail made with whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters. Commonly used whiskeys include rye (the traditional choice), Canadian whisky, bourbon and Tennessee whiskey. Proportions of whiskey to vermouth vary, from a very sweet 1:1 ratio to a much drier 4:1 ratio. The cocktail is often stirred with ice and strained into a cocktail glass, where it is garnished with a Maraschino cherry with a stem. The drink is also frequently served on the rocks
in an old-fashioned glass (lowball glass).
Today's Clue:
7. - Although the MG is beautiful and handsome, on the evening of December 12th there will be a solemn air of gloom and disappointment throughout the MG's abode. The MG will be wooing "The Party's Over" in 4 part harmony.- GN,BA

Please send us your guess as a comment. We will announce the name of the MG tomorrow and a start a new Monday Mystery Guest.

PLEASE VOTE FOR AHGRR

Please go to this website:
http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3
The webpage is somewhat temperamental but the above link is correct. Please give the page enough time to fully load to "Done" before proceeding. Then we want you to enter the following red data into the boxes provided:

Shelter Name: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue
Country:
United States
State:
WV
City: Capon Bridge
To simplify things, you can actually just select "WV" in the state drop down menu and type "Capon" in for theCity. Then click on "Search." The page will then do its' thing and will end up showing the location of AHGRR: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. Capon Bridge, WV 26714. And, more importantly, a "VOTE" button will appear. Click on the "VOTE" button. You will then have to identify a particular animal in a photo to confirm your vote; this eliminates machine voting. You then will be thanked for your vote to indicate that your vote has registered. You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization. Voting began on September 14th, 2009, and ends at midnight (PST) on December 20th, 2009. The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! The homeless pets awaiting adoption at Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary are counting on us.

As we said, a certain blog-bully isn't thrilled with your selection for the mystery guest. We, on the other hand, are quite flattered.

Hey Bumpass! I've been meaning to come over and say Go NAVY! Beat Army!

Mr. Wild Dingo and I just attended his 25th reunion at Annapolis las month. I'm not a military girl nor are the wild dingo pups, but boy I felt honored to attend. The spirit was high at their football game (against who knows who). (and they won.)
I bought lots of Navy schwag to wear on THE DAY... ;)
so goooooo NAVY!

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
