THE BUMPASS HOUNDS AND KITTIES
Welcome to our blog.
In memory of our bestest blog buddy Spencer who has taken the journey to The Rainbow Bridge; and to our good friend Golden Honey who has gone to join him. They are both much loved dogs and are terribly missed by those of us who knew them. Please, don't forget to remember them both today and smile.
Scroll down a bit for the daily blog postings down under our featured articles. Spend some time browsing around; have some fun. We've got lots of interesting things to check out (we think).
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES? If you encounter a problem with our blog page we'd like you to email us about it if you have the time at bumpasshounds@hughes.net
APOLOGIES: Dad says to offer an apology to everyone of our readers because we are so far behind in reading y'all's blogs and leaving comments on your sites and reading our emails but we're working on it. The dang puppy takes a lot of mom and dad's time .

LOOKING AROUND THE YARD
AND NEIGHBORHOOD
We are enjoying an Indian Summer weather pattern. It has been sunny and warm, in the low 70s, for a few days and it will be today again. The last of the "flowers/weeds" in the yard are hanging on awaiting the coming blustery days. About half of the broad leaf trees are still holding on to their leaves and remain green. The other half of the trees have dropped their brown and yellow leaves down into the front yard and back paddock/pen. Dad says he's waiting for the rest to drop before he starts raking and burning. Dad is trying to install a flood light out over the Newfs pen so they won't be left in the dark physically although there isn't much he can do about them being in the dark figuratively. Radar spent all day yesterday out in the back paddock with the rest of us. the weather was so good that dad even booted Sophie and Jubal out here with us. If you want to know the particulars about any of the vegetation in our yard you can contact the Virginia Department of Agriculture or The Army of Four since they know just about everything about plants and WE DON'T.Down at the end of the walkway from the front porch stairs to the driveway, dad has a walled garden on the right side where the terrain drops off towards the back yard. That's where the blue/pink (depending on acidity of the soil - we checked the Internet) hydrangea is planted. <-- The hydrangea plant is still holding on to a few of the blooms although they look a bit peeked. The Grumpy garden gnome lives in this garden as does the Tinker Bell gnome. The trees around Lake Anna are still showing some color and are far from winter barren. -->

-
<-- The driveway is filling up with leaves and the gravel is disappearing. It's fun to slosh through the leaves between the house and the detached garage. The lake is actually pretty colorful and serene. -->

MONDAY MYSTERY GUEST:
Remember, the MG is one of our followers listed at the top of our blog. This is the clue we gave y'all yesterday for this week's Monday Mystery Guest:
1.- The MG is hard to see in a snow storm.Today's Clue:2.- To us, the MG is what Gilligan was to the Skipper.WE'RE MOVING ON UP:
Hey Hounders, Voting Team Captain Radar here again. Y'all have been great about putting up with the voting contest to get AHGRR some of that Animal Rescue Site grant money and we thank you. Y'all know we started late and had to make up lost ground. We've moved up through #9, #7, #5 to #4 on the in state list for West Virginia. Yesterday we were all the way up to #387 nationwide, this morning we have moved up higher to #362. We hope to get AHGRR at least a most votes in one week prize. Ms. Carol and Mr. Skip up at AHGRR rescued me so I owe them my life so this is the least I can do to try to help them help other dogs as bad off as I was. We are moving in the right direction because of YOUR VOTES, so PLEASE keep voting once a day per computer. Our momentum seems to be back, so PLEASE be sure to vote today and everyday; pretty please with sugar on it. We hope y'all don't get upset by our daily reminder about voting. Please go to the bottom of this post to read all about it. Thank you all very much for helping us in this effort. You're helping to save lives and provide health care and shelter for homeless dogs while they're awaiting their furever homes. PLEASE consider posting the voting instructions on your blog and Face Book, Twitter, My Space pages, etc., and asking your readers and friends to join us in our effort; be a pain in the butt like us. - Radar and The Bumpass Hounds & Kitties******************

PLEASE VOTE FOR AHGRR
The webpage is somewhat temperamental but the above link is correct. Please give the page enough time to fully load to "Done" before proceeding. Then we want you to enter the following red data into the boxes provided:
Shelter Name: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue
Country: United States
State: WV
City:
Capon Bridge
Then click on "
Search." The page will then do its' thing and will end up showing the location of AHGRR:
Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. Capon Bridge, WV 26714. And, more importantly, a "
VOTE" button will appear. Click on the "
VOTE" button. You will then have to identify a particular animal in a photo to confirm your vote; this eliminates machine voting. You then will be thanked for your vote to indicate that your vote has registered. You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization. Voting begins on September 14th, 2009, and ends at midnight (PST) on December 20th, 2009. The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! The homeless pets awaiting adoption at
Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary are counting on us.
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO SIGN THE BUMPASS HOUNDS GUEST BOOK
We, and our readers, would really like it if you could please leave your blog site address (if you've got one) with your comment. We want to check you out.SUCCESS. WE DID IT! We were trying to get at least one guest book entry from each of the 50 United States and D.C. and one from as many different countries as we can. We're were just about there but got hung up on 49 with just one state missing, SOUTH DAKOTA. We'd even solicited anyone from SODAK to help us out. Good news: as of Sept 30, 2009 we have an entry from all 50 states. A really big thanks to Lynette Raesly in Howard, South Dakota for signing our book. We want y'all to please sign our guest book if you haven't already done so. Thank you to every one for stopping by. - TBH&K
ADOPT A PET IN DECEMBER
If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRR) on our page further down, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLAYMATE OF THE MONTH DECEMBER 2009 - DJ

Glitterfy.com - Glitter Graphics
ATTENTION GOLDEN RETRIEVER LOVERS
Can someone please make room in their heart and home for DJ? DJ needs to find a forever home to live out his remaining few years in a loving environment. Do you have room in your heart and home for him; he'll try not to be an inconveinence or much of an imposition. This old gent is about 13 years young with a heart of gold. He could no longer navigate the stairs in his owners home, so he is here - - - - - - - and he would love to find a forever home soon. DJ is a prime candidate for long term foster home/care. If you are interested, please contact AHGRR. DJ is arthritic, so a home with one floor - or a home where he would be comfortable on one floor is a must. This boy is a sweetheart. He's a handsome old gentleman and he's waiting now to go home with some lucky person as an adoption or as a long term foster. You can check him out, and other adoptable dogs looking for 4ever homes, at the Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary website:

Remember, Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary is a registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization and operates solely on donations from kind hearted souls such as youself. All donations are 100% tax deductible so ya can give it to AHGRR sted of giving it to Uncle Sam. Any little bit will help. Please make a donation at:
http://www.almostheaven-golden-retriever-rescue.org/ And if'n ya can't be given money in these hard times then hows 'bout at least a little thought or prayer for this little guy to make it through this manure impediment. We'd all precite it. Thank'n ya kindly for tak'n the time to read about DJ.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN
CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a
particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept
Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
A DOG'S PURPOSE
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's fami ly surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.' Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The Six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.' Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
-When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
-Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride
-Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
-Take naps.
-Stretch before rising.
-Run, romp, and play daily.
-Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
-Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
-On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
-On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
-When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
-Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
-Be loyal.
-Never pretend to be something you're not.
-If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
-When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
-ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY

We know how your dad feels about waiting for ALL of the leaves to fall. Thing is here, we live in the mountains and even though all of our leaves have fallen, the one's up the mountain haven't and mom knows that when they start raking, the winds will pick up and blow leaves all offur our yard. Thanks goodness we're inside kitties!
Old Girl loves those hydrangeas! Meanwhile, I'm starting to wonder about the MG...hmm...
I think I would just leave the leaves on the driveway and let the wind take care of them! :)
Hey, do you ever get any gooses stopping at your lake??
Play bows,
Zim
PS: Happy USMC birthday!
