If you'd like to play along, contact the hostess
The Colour for today is:

Can you find "violet' on the color wheel? Of course you can because it says "violet" on it. If you can't, you need help with reading.
<--- Here's Miss Piggy, one of our favorite swine, on the cover of Life Magazine wearing a violet color dress. WOW! a violet pig. Over here we have Violet Parr from Disney's "The Incredible." There really isn't any thing violet about her except her name. --->

<--- Here's a violet flower, an orchid perhaps, we'll have to get the Ao4 to verify. And here's a photo of the celestial heavens which, we were not aware, are evidently violet. --->

<--- The violet colored gemstone Amethyst is the Birthstone for February. It is also the Zodiac stone for the constellation of Pisces. Amethyst is the purple variety of the mineral quartz and is a popular gemstone. If it were not for its widespread availability, amethyst would be very expensive (Duh!). The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek and means "not drunken." We wonder if the Ao4's mum can make a violet bag like this one. --->

<--- Here are a couple of scenic violet sky photos. We often find violet mixed in amongst the sunset colours, not so much at sunrise. Why is that? --->

<--- Here's another violet sunset sky with a big bright ball stuck in the trees That's probably the sun setting. Here is a picture taken up on a mountain looking down into a valley where some of the mountain rock has a violet tint to it. --->

<--- Another violet sunset sky and what looks to be a violet Iris; again we'll need to verify with the Ao4's mum (that's one flower to another). --->

Well that's it for our

Remember, the MG is one of our followers listed at the top of our blog. These are the clues we've given y'all so far for this week's Monday Mystery Guest:
1.- The MG is hard to see in a snow storm.
2.- To us, the MG is what Gilligan was to the Skipper.
3.- The MG ponders: "To foo or not to foo; that is the question."

Today's Clue:
4.- The AKC suggests that the MG "is a small, sturdy, white powder puff of a dog whose merry temperament is evidenced by his plumed tail....." (How can they use "sturdy' and "puff" in the same descriptive sentence? - Duh.)

Homer J. here with some news. We got a newsletter from Ms. Carol up at Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary in Delray, WV. That's the shelter that dad tries to help out whenever he can. We thought we'd post the newsletter here so y'all can keep up with what's going on. Four new pups to take care of but 3 others have found new homes. This is what our voting for AHGRR campaign is all about; you CAN make a difference if you vote. Please don't hesitate to contact Ms. Carol if you get a hankering to help out in whatever way you can; just tell her that you're a Bumpass Buddy. It doesn't matter where you live or what your resources are, even a word of thanks or encouragement would likely be appreciated; it sure does to us whether we say so or not. That's just canine (and human) nature. Here's the newsletter:

Hi Everyone:
Well, we're moving up the "charts" with a bullet - thanks to all of you! We're currently solidly in the #5 position
(up to #4 now)
- - - - - - - - still out of the money, but climbing - lol. Please remember to ask your friends, relatives, co-workers to vote, too! And vote every day!

We have some new faces here. Please meet:

Shep - at least 12 - 13 years old - abandoned by his owners and left to die by the side of a country road. This sweet old gent just needs a warm, loving home to spend the rest of his life. He is an easy going boy who would make a great foot warmer this winter.
<--- Shep

Sunny K - is at least 10 years old. He was purchased at a yard sale by a lady who then turned him over to animal control because Sunny didn't get along with her cats. Sunny doesn't act his age. He's a nice boy who can be selective about his canine companions - - - - - - but wouldn't he look cute curled up in front of your fireplace this winter? Sunny K --->

Sampson - picked up as a stray, this gentle giant (he is big), would fit into any home. Sampson is only a couple of years old, and is so loving. He's also housebroken and fully vetted. <--- Sampson

Daisy - - we don't really know how Daisy ended up in a rural shelter, but she did. Lucky for her, a very concerned volunteer contacted us. Daisy is a young dog - probably just over a year old. She likes other dogs, and is as cute as can be.
<--- Daisy

All of these dogs need sponsors. Any and all help is appreciated.
(Please contact Ms. Carol if you can help. - Homer J.)

Waiting to come in is DJ - 13 years young, and unable to navigate his owners stairs any more. And Shadow, a mostly blind setter mix girl (she has PRA and will eventually lose all of her sight). And, a middle aged golden boy whose owner cannot keep him any longer.

On a VERY happy note, Mr. White
found his forever home this past weekend (Yeah!).
We are always especially happy when one of our Seniors goes home with a lucky adopter. Noelle and Victoria also found homes.

Have a great week, everyone!

Hey Hounders,
It's me, your Voting Team Captain Radar, banging my head against a tree to get out the vote. Y'all have been great about putting up with the voting contest to get AHGRR some of that Animal Rescue Site grant money and we thank you. Y'all know we started late and had to make up lost ground. We've moved up through #9, #7, #5 to #4 on the in state list for West Virginia. Yesterday we were up to #343 nationwide, and this morning we have moved up higher to #329. We are hoping to get AHGRR at least a most votes in one week prize. Ms. Carol and Mr. Skip up at AHGRR rescued me so I owe them my life so this is the least I can do to try to help them help other dogs as bad off as I was; dogs like 10 year old Mr. White who, after patiently waiting for a long time, was finally adopted to a new loving home. We are moving in the right direction because of YOUR VOTES, so PLEASE keep voting once a day per computer. Our momentum seems to be back, so PLEASE be sure to vote today and everyday; pretty please with sugar on it. We hope y'all don't get upset by our daily reminder about voting. Please go to the bottom of this post to read all about it. Thank you all very much for helping us in this effort. You're helping to save lives and provide health care and shelter for homeless dogs while they're awaiting their furever homes. PLEASE consider posting the voting instructions on your blog and Face Book, Twitter, My Space pages, etc., and asking your readers and friends to join us in our effort; be a pain in the butt like us. EVERY SINGLE VOTE COUNTS; MAKE IT YOURS.

Life Lesson From Boru:
Brain cells come and brain cells go, but fat cells live forever.

Please go to this website:
The webpage is somewhat temperamental but the above link is correct. Please give the page enough time to fully load to "Done" before proceeding. Then we want you to enter the following red data into the boxes provided:
Shelter Name: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue
Country: United States
State: WV
City: Capon Bridge
Then click on "Search." The page will then do its' thing and will end up showing the location of AHGRR: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. Capon Bridge, WV 26714. And, more importantly, a "VOTE" button will appear. Click on the "VOTE" button. You will then have to identify a particular animal in a photo to confirm your vote; this eliminates machine voting. You then will be thanked for your vote to indicate that your vote has registered. You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization. Voting begins on September 14th, 2009, and ends at midnight (PST) on December 20th, 2009. The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! The homeless pets awaiting adoption at Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary are counting on us.

A very good TCT post.
The Greek meaning for the word Amethyst, is probably why the Romans are said to have believed, if you placed a piece of the crystal in your wine you would not get drunk!!!

Love that violet!
Meanwhile, plum-ed tail...
Is that the color of a plum? Cause that would be violet, too, right?!
Did the AKC mention anything about being silly? ;P

How could you just abandon a dog at the side of the road? I'll never understand it.

Bootiful violets - stunning - really! And unbelievable what people (if they be that, indeed) can allow themselves to do to a dog - that's what happened to me grrrrrrr. Just voted too and tried to figure out MG, but can't yet. Soooo happy to hear about Mr. White - pawesome! Finally, LOVE Boru's lesson today!
Hugs xo

Woo, guys! That was scary. Mom found violet right away on your wheel - I thought my services as her Guide Dog for the Color Blind weren't needed any more... then I saw the names were written on there. Whew.
Great job picking the stuff. I like that space picture. Zim thinks you got all the flower names right. Ammy liked the sunsets. And Storm ... well, she's napping.

National Canine Cancer Foundation

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
