POST CHRISTMAS VISIT TO SEE DOC WITTER

OFF TO CRAH
Hey Hounders,
Homer J. and Jubal here with some news of note. Mom took it easy all day yesterday and just watched football games and rested her broken foot and ankle. She says that it is "throbbing" quite a bit, probably because she's been hopping around too much. She's a lot more ambulatory than she was last week when the "incident" occurred.
Last week, a few days before Christmas, mom notice that the pea sized growth on the outside lower right side of Homer's left rear foot seemed to be larger than it had been. Jubal also has a lump on his lower right leg that is inside the skins between the two bones in his lower leg. Mom decided that we both needed to be checked so she called Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital in Fredericksburg and made an appointment for us to see our vet, Doc Witter, today. So, bright and early this morning we two, along with mom and dad, hopped into the Rescue Wagon and drove on up to CRAH. Dad bribed mom to come along by promising to buy her breakfast at Cracker Barrel. When we got to CRAH, mom was a big hit with her walking "boot" and her crip stick (single crutch). Mom knows everyone there, not only because she's been a client for some 20 odd years but also because she worked a lot of LVT intern hours there last summer. We were both our usual laid back selves and enjoyed being the center of attention. Dorothy and Jamie out front were happy to see us and the LVT, Jessica, gave us both lots of pats while she looked at our owies. Then the master himself came in to look at us. The Doc is a GReat vet and mom and dad like talking to him. He aspirated both of our lumps and made some slides to be looked at. Doc Witter decided that Homer's growth should be removed; it bled a bit when it was aspirated (see the bandage that Doc wrapped around Homer's left rear foot?). Dr. Newman examined the specimen slides and determined that Jubal's lump is just a benign cyst of mostly fluid. So Homer is scheduled to have his pea growth removed a week from this Wednesday and Jubal is just to be watched for any adverse changes in his cyst. After our vet visit we got to take a nap in the back of the Rescue Wagon in the Cracker Barrel parking lot. Then we made a surprise stop at Ronald's House of Beef where both of us were treated to two McDoubles each for behaving so well at CRAH and during the ride up. We also got some fries but dad seemed to be dealing himself in on the fry distribution. Dad made a couple of shopping stops but mom stayed in the Rescue Wagon to keep us company. When we got home we both watered the remaining snow in the front yard and then went into the house to refill ourselves. We had to tell Sophie all about our adventure since she was the only one in the house, everyone else was outside in the pen and paddock.
We hope that y'all had a GReat Christmas and are getting ready to welcome in baby 2010.

Okay that's not so bad then. At least you got burgers out of it.

Glad it's not bad news. Frankly, your humans need to have a talk with mine because two weeks ago, Kat and I went to the vet and were put under to have our teeth cleaned and we didn't get McDonalds. In fact, we've never gotten McDonalds ever on the way home from the vet. Something is horribly wrong with this picture!

PS. If we lived where you live, Dad could get Mom to go anywhere by offering her Chick-Fil-A. Mom and Dad are going to be in Virginia in January and Mom has already mapped out where the CFA's are!

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.
