A SORROWFUL NEWS WEDNESDAY.

SAD NEWS

Hey Hounders,
Our mom and dad tell us that one of the greatest feelings in life occurs when you can intervene to save the life of a homeless dog. The reward is a deep feeling of worth. Sometimes that realization of the abuse and/or neglect that some of the dogs have endured can be unsettling, but the transformation of dog back to a trusting and loving pet just makes the feeling of worth that must more intense. However, occasionally things don't always work out like a happy Hollywood ending. Sometimes fate steps in and knocks you down. Our buddy Mogley's family fosters homeless dogs out in Colorado for Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies. Their latest foster was a sweet Golden named Agnes. Over the past few weeks we've all been drawn in to the saga of Agnes and we've become attached to her as we watched her situation improve dramatically. Unfortunately, Tuesday evening Agnes had to be helped across The Rainbow Bridge. It's a shocking loss to us and we're sure that Mogley and Bella and their family are devastated by this tremendous loss. If you haven't followed the Agnes story, please stop over at Mogley's blog, A Dog's Life, the real story , and read the chain of Agnes postings to learn more of the beauty of Agnes. Living in Mogley and Bella's home, Agnes had the love and care she had been so in need of. Unknowingly it was to be her furever home. Mogley and Bella were awarded our Bravo-Zulu Award because of the GReat work they do helping lost souls such as Agnes; for giving them the hope of a happy life. Agnes had finally found her happy life and she was well cared for; right up to her final moments with her true, loving, family.

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this – the last battle – can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me ‘til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its’ last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

This poem is one that we fall back to whenever we have to help our friends face the realization that their time to cross has come. Godspeed sweet Agnes. Run free and bound through the meadows without pain. May you Rest in Peace.

RADAR'S BEGGING STRIP
Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRR) has moved into the #1 position among the West Virginia shelters and we've advanced to #123 overall in The Animal Rescue Site monetary grant voting this morning. Right now AHGRR is in a position to be awarded a $1,000.00 grant for being #1 in the State of West Virginia. But that could be lost if our supportters don't continue to vote each and every day from now up to, and including, the 20th of December. How devastating that would be to Ms. Carol and Mr. Skip who give so much of themselves to help homeless dogs find their furever homes. We only have five days of voting left, counting today, to go. So we need you all to help AHGRR stay on top to close out this quest. We'd like to win the top spot in West Virginia. It would be a lot of help if y'all could solicit support from others to help us achieve our goal. Again we ask that you please consider appealing to your social network friends on Facebook, My Space, etc. Our mom simply asked her Facebook friends to vote and she got all positive responses. Please do it for the homeless pups during this Christmas Season of love and charity.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT
VOTING ENDS DECEMBER 20TH
PLEASE VOTE FOR AHGRR

Please go to this website:
The webpage can sometimes be temperamental but the above link is correct. Please give the page enough time to fully load to "Done" before proceeding. Then we want you to enter the following red data into the boxes provided:
Shelter Name: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue
Country: United States
State: WV
City: Capon Bridge
To simplify things, you can actually just select "WV" in the state drop down menu and type "Capon" in for the City. Then click on "Search." The page will then do its' thing and will end up showing the location of AHGRR: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. Capon Bridge, WV 26714. And, more importantly, a "VOTE" button will appear. Click on the "VOTE" button. You will then have to identify a particular animal in a photo to confirm your vote; this eliminates machine voting. You then will be thanked for your vote to indicate that your vote has registered. You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization. Voting began on September 14th, 2009, and ends at midnight (PST) on December 20th, 2009, just five days from today. The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! The homeless pets awaiting adoption at Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary are counting on us.

While sorry that Agnes had to leave, at least she knew love and care in her final days - and that is very special.

We were so sad to read about Agnes, and sent our best vibes to your Golden Pals.

We love the carols. Thank you. And how appropriate for the story you shared (we got Silent Night)

Thank you for your post to our blog. It is amazing how the rescue comunity comes forward to help at times like this.
We are sad for her passing, but we are very happy that we had her for several weeks before she went. What a tragedy it would have been for her to pass her final days in a chain link run with a concrete floor, no one to pat her head or stroke her muzzel.

We have been voting for your rescue every day, good work on being number one in your state.

We saw the post about Agnes last evening. We are so sad this happened and cannot understand how anyone would just toss out a Senior Golden like a piece of trash.
Thanks to Mogley, Bella, their human and GRRR , Agnes was showered with love in her final days.
We are sure she knew of the love, the warm bed the companionship and when the time came, being helped to the Bridge.
Rest Well Agnes, know that you were loved and cared for and thought of by so many.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
