SUNDAY FUNNIES

A BUMPASS HAPPENING
Hey Hounders, we heard the sirens, we heard the Newfs howling and horns honking and out on our front lawn there arose such a clatter that we dashed out front to see what the commotion was all about. Look who was checking out our house. The Bumpass Volunteer Fire Department was escorting an elderly couple around the neighborhood. They stopped to introduce themselves and they even had Milk Bone biscuits to hand out to good dogs. We gave Santa our names and he checked his list; he checked it twice in fact. then he said we'd been good most of the time and gave us each two biscuits. What a great day; and then Navy beat Army to top it off. What more could a good dog ask for?

THE BEGGING STRIP.
Radar, your Voting Team Captain, with my daily plea for your HELP! Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRR) has moved to the #2 position for West Virginia shelters but we've advanced to #138 overall in The Animal Rescue Site monetary grant voting this morning. We only have a little over a week to go so we obviously need lots of help to get into winning range. We'd like to win the top spot in West Virginia. It would be a lot of help if y'all could solicit support from others to help us achieve our goal. Again we ask that you please consider appealing to your social network friends on Facebook, My Space, etc. Our mom simply asked her Facebook friends to vote and she got all positive responses. Please do it for the homeless pups during this Christmas Season of love and charity. I've been trying to give you reasons to vote for AHGRR and I'd like to give you yet one more. This dog, like all the others, is not just a nameless stray wandering through the fields, his name is Toby Too. Toby Too has been waiting in shelter for his new furever home for a little while now. Perhaps you could find room in your heart and home for Toby Too. Maybe you can help sponsor Toby Too while she waits for his new home. Perhaps a small Christmas or holiday donations to AHGRR would give you that Santa feeling that people seem to enjoy having; just look at that fabulous face and imagine that you're looking into Toby Too's warm, loving brown eyes. How can you say no to her. Perhaps you can find it in your heart to provide a homeless pup an AHGRR sponsorship if only for the holidays. Even if you can't, you can still vote for AHGRR and possibly help Toby Too. Here's a biography on Toby Too:

3 1/2 year old Toby is such a good boy. Toby is housebroken, does well on leash, and is a very nice looking boy. Toby is a special dog looking for a special home. We would prefer that he be an "only furkid" and that he have a conventional fenced yard. If you would like to offer Toby Too a forever home, please submit and application which you can download from our website. (http://www.blogger.com/www.almostheaven-golden-retriever-rescue.org) Please email or mail it to AHGRR. - Radar and The Bumpass Hounds and Kitties

7.- An MG proverb: six of one, three of another

ABBY'S EASY TIPS FOR A PET-SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON
It's your pal Abby (Dabby-Do) with some today's helpful hint to help keep us pet healthy and safe during this holiday seasons. Starting on Thanksgiving things might be busy around the house here in the U.S. for the next few weeks. There may be parties and decorating going on in the house. Sometimes we pets can be a little too inquisitive and stick our noses, and mouths, where they don't belong. It's really up to our care givers to take a few precautions to make sure that we all have an enjoyable, and safe, holiday season so please make sure that your peeps read these tips from the SPCA.
Easy Tips for a Pet-Safe Holiday Season“As you prepare for your holiday celebrations,” says Dr. Steven Hansen, Senior Vice President of ASPCA Animal Health Services, “remember to be wary of foods and traditions that can bring potential dangers to companion animals.” In honor of the joyous season to come, ASPCA poison control experts offer these essential tips for having pets at the party in a safe way:
Decorations Can Be Dangerous. Holiday decorations such as breakable ornaments, string, ribbon and dreidels should be kept out of paws’ reach. These traditional decorations can cause choking or severe intestinal problems if swallowed. All holiday light strands, loose wires and electric cords can also pose serious dangers to your pet, especially puppies, who may chew on them.

VOTING ENDS DECEMBER 20TH

PLEASE VOTE FOR AHGRR

Please go to this website:
The webpage can sometimes be temperamental but the above link is correct. Please give the page enough time to fully load to "Done" before proceeding. Then we want you to enter the following red data into the boxes provided:
Shelter Name: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue
Country: United States
State: WV
City: Capon Bridge
To simplify things, you can actually just select "WV" in the state drop down menu and type "Capon" in for the City. Then click on "Search." The page will then do its' thing and will end up showing the location of AHGRR: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. Capon Bridge, WV 26714. And, more importantly, a "VOTE" button will appear. Click on the "VOTE" button. You will then have to identify a particular animal in a photo to confirm your vote; this eliminates machine voting. You then will be thanked for your vote to indicate that your vote has registered. You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization. Voting began on September 14th, 2009, and ends at midnight (PST) on December 20th, 2009. The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! The homeless pets awaiting adoption at Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary are counting on us.

Haroooooo...we wish Santa came along our street. We get lots of folks singing carols (very badly) who make us howl and scream, but no bones. we wanna move!

Congratulations on the victory - muzzer impressed a whole room full of faculty folk by singing the first chorus of "Go Navy Down the Field" which she learned on your blog. That woman would be dangerous is she drank alcohol.

And we posted on facebook and on my blog sidebar about the contest. So we had a good day too.

Hey, Bumpass Pals, it certainly is okay if you post about the auction on your blog. If you need a copy of the graphic, email us jff @ gmail.com. Gracie kitty will be thrilled if you help advertise it. Thanks!

Jan has been hogging the computer for her new store. We barely made the rescue voting before midnight last night. Whew!

Uh, did you know your sidebar has gone south for the holiday? Did you recently add something too wide for it?

Sure looks like you had fun with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
I think that is the first time we saw a picture of your Dad. It's always good to put a face with a name.
We watched the game yesterday and thought of you often.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
