(2008 GAME)

=

FINAL SCORE
ARMY - 3
NAVY - 17

Today is the day that the Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy and the Black Knights/Kaydets of the United States Military Academy will face off in the football game upon which their entire season will be based. Either Academy will be able to claim a "winning season" by emerging victorious from this contest. The records from all previous games of this college football season and the won/loss record for all previous Army-Navy games are of no consequence to today's game. Today is the first day of the 2009 season; it is the only day of the 2009 season. The athletes competing in today's game will not be playing to impress the NFL's professional scouts nor will they be signing any multi-million dollar contracts with any NFL team for at least the next 6 years, if ever. They have chosen to attend their respective Academy based on a desire to serve their country, be it as an Army Officer or a Naval or Marine Corps Officer. Today's game has a spirit to it that is based on traditions that few, if any, non-service academy alumni or non-military servicemen can appreciate. We support Navy because our dad graduated from there (shortly after it was established) and he is our care giver. But we have the utmost respect and admiration for the Army personnel who so nobly serve. The Military Academy's motto is "Duty, Honor, Country" and all U.S. service academies strive to instill those very values, so emblazened at West Point, in their own graduates. We say "Go Navy - Beat Army," but no matter the outcome, we know that each and every player on the field today will do his best and give their all to be victorious. At the end, each team will retain and manifest a deep respect for their opponent. To all military members, past and present, we extend a heart felt
"THANK YOU FOR YOUR SEVICE."

"GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY"

"GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY"

"GO TEAMS"

"may the best team win"

CAN WE BEG; PLEASE VOTE.
Radar, your Voting Team Captain, with my daily plea for your HELP! Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRR) has moved to the #2 position for West Virginia shelters but we've advanced to #138 overall in The Animal Rescue Site monetary grant voting this morning. We only have a little over a week to go so we obviously need lots of help to get into winning range. We'd like to win the top spot in West Virginia. It would be a lot of help if y'all could solicit support from others to help us achieve our goal. Again we ask that you please consider appealing to your social network friends on Facebook, My Space, etc. Our mom simply asked her facebook friends to vote and she got all positive responses. Please do it for the homeless pups during this Christmas Season of love and charity. I've been trying to give you reasons to vote for AHGRR and I'd like to give you yet one more. This dog, like all the others, is not just a nameless stray wandering through the fields, her name is Jeaneen. Jeaneen has been waiting in shelter for her new furever home for a little while now. Perhaps you could find room in your heart and home for Jeaneen. Maybe you can help sponsor Jeaneen while she waits for his new home. Perhaps a small Christmas or holiday donations to AHGRR would give you that Santa feeling that people seem to enjoy having; just look at that fabulous face and imagine that you're looking into Jeaneen's warm, loving brown eyes. How can you say no to her. Even if you can't, you can still vote for AHGRR and possibly help Jeaneen. Here's a biography on Jeaneen:
2 - 3 year old Jeaneen was once someone's pet. She is perfectly crate trained, knows simple commands like "sit", and would love to have a home of her own and someone to love her soon. This little girl has energy and would like nothing better than to have a walking/hiking partner. If you would like to offer Jeaneen a forever home, please submit and application which you can download from our website (www.almostheaven-golden-retriever-rescue.org) Please email or mail it to AHGRR.

ABBY'S EASY TIPS FOR A PET-SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON

It's your pal Abby (Dabby-Do) with some today's helpful hint to help keep us pet healthy and safe during this holiday seasons. Starting on Thanksgiving things might be busy around the house here in the U.S. for the next few weeks. There may be parties and decorating going on in the house. Sometimes we pets can be a little too inquisitive and stick our noses, and mouths, where they don't belong. It's really up to our care givers to take a few precautions to make sure that we all have an enjoyable, and safe, holiday season so please make sure that your peeps read these tips from the SPCA.

Easy Tips for a Pet-Safe Holiday Season
“As you prepare for your holiday celebrations,” says Dr. Steven Hansen, Senior Vice President of ASPCA Animal Health Services, “remem
ber to be wary of foods and traditions that can bring potential dangers to companion animals.” In honor of the joyous season to come, ASPCA poison control experts offer these essential tips for having pets at the party in a safe way:

Avoid Too Much of a Good Thing. While the holidays are a time for giving, there are some foods you should not share with your furry friends. A taste of mashed potato or a lick of pumpkin pie shouldn’t pose a problem. However, alcoholic beverages, coffee, onions, fatty foods, yeast dough and macadamia nuts can all lead to stomach upset, diarrhea or even worse—an inflammatory condition of the pancreas known as pancreatitis. A special no-no is chocolate, which if ingested can lead to death. And you may want to skip sharing the turkey—poultry bones can splinter and cause blockages.

PLEASE VOTE FOR AHGRR
Please go to this website:

http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3
/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3
The webpage is somewhat temperamental but the above link is correct. Please give the page enough time to fully load to "Done" before proceeding. Then we want you to enter the following red data into the boxes provided:

Shelter Name: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue

Country: United States
State:
WV
City:
Capon Bridge
To simplify things, you can actually just select "WV" in the state drop down menu and type "Capon" in for the City. Then click on "Search." The page will then do its' thing and will end up showing the location of AHGRR: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. Capon Bridge, WV 26714. And, more importantly, a "VOTE" button will appear. Click on the "VOTE" button. You will then have to identify a particular animal in a photo to confirm your vote; this eliminates machine voting. You then will be thanked for your vote to indicate that your vote has registered. You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization. Voting began on September 14th, 2009, and ends at midnight (PST) on December 20th, 2009. The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! The homeless pets awaiting adoption at Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary are counting on us.

Army played better than they have in many years and held Navy scoreless during the 1st half. Army led at halftime by a score of 3 - 0. Navy made some adjustments during halftime and opened the 3rd quater with a touchdown scoring drive and then a field goal on their next possesion; Navy held the ball for about 12 +1/2 minutes of the 15 minute 3rd quarter. Navy added a second touchdown and the final score was Navy 17 - Army 3. We suspect that Army will field a much improved team in 2010 and Navy will be hard pressed to continue their recent dominance in the series. Duty, Honor, Country. God Bless the Mids and cadets for their service to their country.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
