A VERY SPECIAL SUNDAY EDITION

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
FOR A SPECIAL BLOG

We are pleased to announce only the 4th presentation of

The Prestigious Bumpass Hounds

BRAVO-ZULU Award

Heya Hounders,

Homer J., the senior patriarch of The Bumpass Hounds, here today with a very special and important announcement. We try not to take ourselves too seriously around here, but this is a serious effort on our part. As you probably know, our BBBs (best blog buddies) Mogley and Bella are very involved with Golden Retriever rescue out in snowy Colorado. As a rescued Golden Retriever myself and former "shelter dog," I realize how important that rescue and fostering efforts are in helping dogs which would otherwise be homeless and/or in a shelter. We canines are all looking for the same thing people want, to be a loved family member in a forever home. Us Bumpasses have met many wonderful cats and dogs through Dogs With Blogs. We were introduced to DWB by our friend Spencer who is at The Rainbow Bridge. He helped rescue Golden Retrievers in Southern California. We do what we can here in Virginia and Mogley and Bella are helping out in the Rocky Mountain states. Well Spencer's mom (HM) "M" and dad (HD) "S" have kept Spencer's blog site open as a tribute to him but they now have opened Dog By Nature ; they continue rescuing and fostering Golden Retrievers, and doing whatever else they can to assist in the rescue effort for Goldens. We remember the heart breaking story of the twin Golden pups Ben and Gerry and all the HM and HD did to try to save them; that episode was a low in our lives. They have now become failed foster parents (like our mom and dad) having adopted Kona, one of their many foster dogs. Us Bumpasses were inspired the efforts of Mogley and Bella, and Spencer and HM and HD. In fact, we were so inspired that we created our own special award to recognize the "above and beyond" efforts of blogs like Mogley's (and Bella too) and Spencer's and now Dog By Nature. Our dad is an old sailor; he was in the Navy. In the Navy, when someone did something good that was out of the ordinary, something "above and beyond" the norm, those individuals would often be recognized with a "BZ" message or flag hoist or letter of commendation. In the nautical phonetic alphabet, the letter "B" is pronounced "BRAVO" and the letter "Z" is pronounced "ZULU." Hence the "BZ" message is commonly referred to as a "BRAVO-ZULU" and it means "WELL DONE." There is a signal flag for each letter in the alphabet; the BRAVO flag is solid red with a triangular bite missing from the fly side; the ZULU flag is square with the base of four different colored triangles on each side (yellow, blue, red and black). We have only presented this award to three recipient blogs to date. Our awardees have been Mogley (and Bella), Spencer (posthumously) and HM and HD, and our latest recipient Khyra and her mom ande Doggy Nana. Of course we realize that each of these blogs is a team effort and this award is meant to be shared by the entire team.

We have been made aware of another blog with a very hard working team devoted to helping dogs facing grim situations. We have read through their past blog post and are in awe of the scope of the good works that this latest award recipient team has accomplished. They are most definitely of the same caliber as the previous winners. On behalf of all the dogs that this team has helped find homes, we, the Bumpass hounds of Bumpass, Virginia, do hereby present The Prestigious Bumpass Hounds BRAVO-ZULU Award to that awesome tripawed canine blogger Ben and his team of Lance, Tiger, Coop, dad and mom at " Life is Better on 3 Legs Than 4."

BEN

This award is not one to be passed on or transferred. It is for retention and display by the recipients only. There are no rules or requirements that go with it. Ben and his team have already met the requirements, and so have Mogley, Bella, the Chauffeur and House Keeper; Spencer and HM and HD; and Khyra and her Mom and Doggy Nana. The award is nothing fancy and no money comes with it, but the recipients have already received their reward, and it is NOT a stuffy that squeaks or a treat. If Ben and his mom and dad like, they're welcome to copy the award and put it on their blog page. Let's have a big round of applause for Ben and his team. This Christmas season let's all remember Spencer, our inspiration, and smile; he'd like that as he watches down over us. Ben, Lance, Tiger, Coop, Mom and Dad stand up and take a bow - WELL DONE.

Why not stop over at Life is Better on 3 Legs Than 4 and leave a congratulatory comment of encouragement for all that they are doing for those dogs less fortunate than most of us that have the luxury of blogging as a past time.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
