MONDAY MYSTERY GUEST

"AND THE ANSWER IS......."
Hey Hounders,
J.E.B. here today doing our post. We've been doing chore lists all weekend so we're behind the 8 ball. We haven't done a Mystery Guest for today but plan do do one again next week. But, of course, we have to announce last week's Mystery Guest, so here goes.

Last week's Monday Mystery Guest clues were and their relationship to the Mystery Guest:

1. MG originated 2/3rds from the area of vast forests in the north of Russia. - The majority, 2/3, of the MG has origins in Siberia.

2. A medicine man writing prescriptions for happy hearts. - The MG is, at least partly, a doctor who writes prescriptions to patients for those favor canine treats that we all love to snack on, Happy Heart Cookies.

3. To visit the MG you'd better bring along a bumbershoot just in case and go by SEA. - A bumbershoot is an umbrella needed in rainy places and SEA is the airport identifier for the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

4. Near the sound of water where the seahawks roost and mariners anchor. - The Seattle Seahawks NFL footbal team and the Seattle Mariners major league baseball team both have their home fields in Seattle , WA on the shore of Puget Sound.

5. The sevens all fly away from nearby. - The Boeing Aircraft Company has manufacturing and delivery centers in Seattle, Renton and Everett, WA where the 707, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777 airliners are assembled and then flown away.

6. A dog can be a cat by name only. - A dog can be named Kat.

7. The number that sang about riding the MTA to watch Tom Dooley hang and got wooed. - The Kingston TRIO (3) sang these songs.

8. They favor a breed that plays football near them. - The University of Washington is located in Seattle. The schools mascot is a Husky and the school's student body, faculty, alumni and athletic teams are known as the Huskies.

9. There's plenty of iron oxide and space to thread a needle. - Seattle weather is known for its' rain that causes iron, and other metals, to oxidize and form rust. The city of Seattle's most prominent landmark is a remnant of the 1962 World's Fair: The Space Needle.

10. Two against the one who owned a talking horse. - The MG is made up of 3 individuals: 2 Huskies and the other one's name is the same as the character owner of the talking horse, Mr. ED; Wilbur.

The VIDEO CLUE was the opening sequence from the 1968 television series "Here Come The Brides" which was set in frontier Seattle.

So we have Seattle, Siberia, Husky, Kat, Wilbur. So our Monday Mystery Guest from last week was none other than (Dr.) Steve, Kat and Wilbur: a.k.a. THE WASHINGTON WOOS.

Bonus: What's the MG blog site? http://stevekatwilbur.blogspot.com/

We had 8 correct response from Huffle, Clive, Ao4, Khyra, Paco, Milo & Maya, Bob and his 2 Goldens: Hamish and Sophie, Ruby (Red Dog) and of course The Washington Woos themselves.

Thanks for playing. Congratulation to the winners. We hope y'all have a GReat labor Day and don't have to do any labor.

FOR OUR HUSKY FRIENDS

GO HUSKIES!
Hey Hounders,
Abby (Dabby-Doo) with today's post. It seems that we have lots of Husky dogs as friends. We're not up to speed on all of the different types of Husky dogs but we know that there are different kinds. Siberian Husky, Alaskan Husky, Bumpass Husky, etc. Most of them have a mask so we suspect that the might all be up to something. We thought we'd spotlight a Husky that probably has it made in the shade for lifestyle. Even though he might be a working dog breed, given his new type of "work" we find it far fetched to call this guy a working dog working dog.

‘Dubs’ announced as new live

University of Washington mascot

February 11, 2009
An Alaskan Malamute named Dubs will become the UW’s 13th live mascot, the school announced yesterday.

Right: Dubs sits atop the entrance of the tunnel in Husky Stadium.

Dubs is being trained and is expected to make his official debut at Husky Stadium Sept. 5 when the Huskies host LSU in the season opener. Born last November, Dubs may also make an appearance at the UW’s annual spring football game in April.
Dubs replaces the former mascot, Spirit, also an Alaskan Malamute.
Spirit was scheduled to retire after last season, but suffered a shoulder injury after stepping in a hole while chasing a squirrel prior to the Sept. 6 game against BYU, cutting his season short.
Last September, the UW Athletic Department began taking online submissions for a name for the new live dog mascot. The field of 1,400 nominations was narrowed to Admiral, Dubs, King, Koda, Legend, Reign, Spirit and Sundodger, the name UW Athletic Director Scott Woodward said Tuesday he thought would win.
More than 20,000 votes were cast in two rounds of online voting before the results were announced.
Fans can keep up with Dubs on his personal blog —
http://huskymascot.blogspot.com/.

If you like Huskies you really need to check out Dubs at his trainers blog. Check out Dubs training and numerous photos at: http://blog.seattlepi.com/caninechat/archives/172493.asp

RUN FREE LITTLE ANNE

LITTLE ANNE
a.k.a. "Flash"

Hey Hounders,
In 2006 we all moved here to Lake Anna and left behind a few close friends that lived in one of the houses next to our old house. Mom and dad moved in to the house with Rusty, Penny, Bear and Kodi. While there Jubal, J.E.B. , Gordon, Alex, Boru, Jenny, Chance, Shelby Belle and Jack joined the pack. Abby, Max, Shiloh and Abby have joined us since we moved here. The 3 original dogs, Rusty, Penny and Bear, and the cat Kodi all stayed behind at the other house as their spirits had all gone to The Rainbow Bridge. Chance and Gordon are here at the lake house but their spirits have also gone to The Rainbow Bridge. Shortly after mom and dad moved into the old house the neighbors adopted a black Labrador Retriever that they named Little Anne. Little Anne was a flash runner and Chance loved to play with her. Penny, acting as neighborhood fun police, would bark at Little Anne as she ran by. Little Anne was a great friend to all the Bumpass Hounds that lived in the old house. She was always more obedient and better behaved than us and our dad used to frequently mention that fact to us. Little Anne was loved by her mom and dad and 2 peep sisters. Last Saturday Little Anne went to The Rainbow Bridge with no pain or suffering. She had developed a cancer just like Penny, Chance and Gordon. Today we got a comment from Little Anne's mom. Here is what she said:

"Rusty, Penny, Chance , Old Bear Dog, Gordon, and Little Anne are all enjoying fair weather and green fields together. What a sight that would be, back together again, Little Anne and her boyfriend Chancey Pants romping together!"

Run free Little Anne. You are loved and deeply missed by all of us who knew you. We will howl at the big DOG in the sky to ask him to watch over you and our brothers and sisters who are there with you. Have fun gang.

TRUE COLOURS THURSDAY - RAINBOW

Hey Hounders,
Well, there's always a first time for everything and today is our first attempt at participating in True Colours Thursday. Yep, "Colours" is spelt the British way because the sponsor is from Britian. If you want to play, just let the hostess, Blue, know!

This is a gigant Rubik's Cube located at the Pop Century Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It's pretty colourful.

This is the logo for Wonder Bread. Look for the red, yellow and blue ballons printed on the wrapper. Remember, Wonder Bread helps build strong bodies 12 ways.

This is a Disney Pin Traders collectable pin from the cultural pride series of pins.

This is an afternoon rainbow as seen looking west from the
Hale Koa Hotel at Waikiki Beach.

This is an oil slick rainbow caused by bunker fuel oil leaking from the sunken Battleship USS ARIZONA in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

This is a TA-4J Skyhawk from the now decommisioned
Fleet Composite Squadron ONE which was based at Naval Air Station, Barbers Point, Hawaii

This is a rainbow over dad's old ship, the USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64). It's decommisioned now and in mothballs just like dad.

This is a lithograph for the NASCAR race car driver Jeff Gordon who is known as The Rainbow Warrior because of his car's colourful paint job.
This is the most precious rainbow representation we know. It is a logo that we display on our blog to honor the memory of Golden Honey who went to The Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, April 25th of this year. She is very much loved and missed by everyone who knew her.

TRASHY TERRAIN TUESDAY

Hey Hounders, It your old pal Jubal with a new feature that we ripped off, err, borrowed from our friends Storm, Zim, Ammy, and Dave, otherwise known as The Army of Four. The live in Manhattan. No dummy not THE Manhattan; the other Manhattan outside the gate of Fort Riley, Kansas. You know, the place where Toto and Dorothy were from. Ms. Gulch, Auntie Em and Professor Marvel's Travelin' Medicine Show and all that stuff. That Manhattan.
Anyhows, every Sunday one of the Army Brats conducts a tour of their very meticulously landscaped grounds and points out the various plants and flowers blooming throughout their yard. Yeah, yeah, we are jealous but we appreciate the more rural natural landscape of metropolitan Bumpass, VA. So we figured we'd have some material if one of us Bumpass Hounds conducted a tour of our naturally landscaped terrain. We call our feature Trashy Terrain Tuesday. Let's get started, shan't we. The top photo is me standing out by the road at the head of our #2 blue pea gravel driveway. The blue gravel is actually gray and was imported from the rock quarry over on the far side of Beaverdam. Notice the encroaching vegetation working it's way into the gravel so as to bring a contrasting touch of green to the overwhelming gray tones of the gravel; isn't it beautiful?

The below picture is shows one of the irregular stones that somehow bypassed the crusher at the quarry. I like to dig these large irregular stones out of the driveway and drop them randomly around the grass in the front yard. I usually do this when the grass is high so as to conceal them from my siblings. When dad mows the front lawn with the riding mower he usually finds them. The lawn tractor has a metallic signal it makes when one of my irregulars is located.

Next I'd like to show you an area of the front lawn that is/was somewhat higher than the grade of the rest of the lawn. Our dad is paintakingsly bringing the high area down to the level of the surrounding yard. During this effort we've had to sacrifice some of the vegetation that was growing atop the high spot. Another year or two and we should have it completed.

This is one of the ornamental plants that dad planted along the walkway to the porch. he has yet dug up or mulched the plant bed as he has planned to do. Radar uses this plant as a marker to tell him he has to go about another two feet to the left to avoid hitting the porch railing.
Well that's about all the time we have for this premier edition of Trashy Terrain Tuesday. We'll continue the tour next Tuesday. If you've got any questions regarding the plants, trees and flowers of Virginia, please feel free to contact the Virginia Department of Agriculture or the Virginia Department of Forestry. They'll probably know the answers to your questions. Have a GReat day.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
