TERRIBLE TERRAIN TUESDAY

A TOUR WITH YOUR GUIDES

Hey Hounders,
It's Jubal, Sophie and Radar to show you around our beautiful Bumpass Estate Garden. Sophie shows you the antenna farm that allows us to have TV and almost high speed Internet. Radar uses his head to point out the big tree out by the swing. Jubal points out the grass growing in the driveway blue gravel imported from Beaverdam. Sophie shows the "lawn" bare spot out by the well head. And Radar shows y'all the well manicured grass alongside the driveway gravel.

MONDAY MADNESS

JACK'S FUNNY FACE FOR HAPPY HEARTS

Hey Hounders,
Jack here. The guys made me post this picture of the funny face I made when dad was giving me my big
Happy Hearts Cookie last week. I was just licking my lips in anticipation of that Happy Heart Cookie goodness that I was about to enjoy. You'd have done the same thing if a Happy Hearts Cookie was being held out in front of you.
Yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL autumn day here at Lake Anna. The trees haven't really changed yet, they're just staring to, and the big barrage of falling leaves hasn't begun yet either, but the temperature and smells were pretty much indicators the fall is really here. It was so nice that mom opened all the windows in the house and dad put out all of us dogs. That's right, ALL of us dogs. Jubal and her highness Ms. Sophie were exiled to the paddock with the rest of us. And here's the biggest news; Radar was allowed to come out in the paddock with us unsupervised. Dad told us to take care of him and make sure that he didn't get into any trouble or mischief. He sure had a GReat time exploring the yard. Maybe he'll be able to come out with us again because he really seemed to enjoy exploring what is a whole new world opening up to him.

MONDAY MYSTERY GUEST:
Time for one last clues about this week' s Monday Mystery Guest. Remember, the MG is one of the 74 followers listed at the top of our blog page. The other clues given so far have been:
1. - The MG is an intercontinental world traveler who really gets around.

The MG's profile says he has lived in China, Australia, Korea, Singapore, The Netherlands and now Italy.
2. -The MG has a golden heart and is like one of us.
The MG is a Golden Retriever.
3. -The MG has seen shrimp on the barbie and probably eaten chop suey.
Shrimp on the barbie is from Australia and, although invented in the U.S., chop suey has connotations of China.
4. -The MG liked seoul music for a while.
The capital of South Korea is Seoul.
5. -The MG has seen city slings and Raffles fired from a long bar amongst the spitting merlion.
The Singapore Sling was originate at The Long Bar in The Raffles Hotel in Singapore where Merlion fountain adorns the harbor.
6.-The MG's profile say that he has a fondness for food and will eat just about anything. He's probably chewed on wooden shoes but now he'll chew on pizza.
The MG just this past week moved from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to Milan, Italy.

OK. What was your guess? That's absolutely correct. Last week's Monday Mystery Guest is none other than (the other) HOMER, The Golden Retriever.

This week's Mystery Guest is, as always, selected from among the 74 followers to our blog listed above. If you get a chance, go visit the blogs of our MMG and tell 'em we sent you over. We don't want to lose any readers but some of y'all might find these guys blogs are also interesting; implying that ours is interesting. :-) There will not be any repeater and we already had Pooka of Nanock and Pooka, Huffle Mawson - Explorer Cat, The Washington Woos, Clive - Assistance Dog for Autism, Khyra, and Homer The Golden Retriever. Here are the first clues for this week's Monday Mystery Guest:

SUNDAY FUNNIES & GUESS THE MMG

CAN I HAVE THE COMICS, PLEASE?

Hey Hounders,
Dad says that when he was a kid, he and his brothers used to fight to get a hold of the Sunday Morning newspaper (The Boston Globe) "funnies" section. It was the only part of the paper printed in color and you could squish "silly putty" over the pictures and get them to transfer to the silly putty. Even today the Fredericksburg
newspape, The Free-Lance Star, runs Sunday color funnies. Here are some comic panels that we didn't find in the newspapers. Have a blissful Sunday and don't forget to take a nap. We hope that your team wins the Sunday contest, be it racing, football or whatever. Just click on the panel to see it bigger and be able to read the captions.

Life Question From Boru:

Why do you press harder on the remote control when you know the batteries are almost dead?
Boru's Political Quiz:
Hey Hounders, I don't care about your politics (otherwise we'd always be arguing with y'all about things that have nothing to do with dogs or cats; except fighting like they are stereotyped to do - Da says 3 things to avoid in social conversation are sex (got that David), politics (hear that Rush) and religion (got that Pat).) but this is a little quiz for you to find a label to affix to yourself. We got it in an email and I had dad take it and low and behold he turned out to be just what he thought he was. We don't have any connection to the quiz and can't see the results; it's just your little secret. http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html

THE HOUSE THAT ALEX WANTS

CAN I MOVE IN HERE?
Hey Hounders,
Alex here with the news that I have found a new place to live. There is this big metal house with open walls in mom and dad's bedroom at the foot of the big bed (do beds really have feet?). Sometimes, especially at night, mom and dad use it as a prison to lock up that crazy blind red puppy Radar. But during the day when Radar is out on the back deck he doesn't use it so I decided that there's no reason that I can't make good use of it for daytime napping. Usually Jubal and Sophie are in the house and they are always stepping on me if I nap on the kitchen floor near the water bowls. So if I nap in here they don't bother me at all. Well Sophie sniffed at me the other day but I think she was just verifying that I wasn't Radar in a disguise. It has a bed pad in it so I can stay warm and comfy (it does smell a bit like wet dog up close).

FICKLE FRIDAY

REMEMBER WHEN
Hey Hounders,
Back in June mom helped deliver another baby alpaca over at the farm You may remember when the cria named
Amia was born she was named that in honor of our mom. Anyway, when mom and dad we're over at the farm taking pictures of the new cria, Mr. D.J., they also so Amia and took a picture of her. She's about 3 months old now so it's interesting to see how she has grown and developed.

NEW LIFE

AT THE ALPACA FARM
Hey Hounders,
Jenny here with some new old news. It's new because we haven't told any of you about it yet but it's old because it happened a few weeks ago before mom and dad went on the Disney Cruise trip. Mom was home one Saturday afternoon when the phone rang. It was Mr. John from Sorbie Farm where mom helps out with the alpacas. Seems that Mr John and his wife, Ms. Sarah were on their way back to the farm from the University of Pennsylvania vet hospital in Philadelphia with one of their alpacas, Sensation. She had to have surgery and they were bringing her home in their transport trailer to recover at home. One of their other alpacas, Zoe, was supposed to be at least a week from delivering her first cria. Unfortunately Zoe had decided to have her baby that afternoon. Mr. John said that they were still a few hours from the farm and asked mom if she could go over to the farm to make sure everything was OK with Zoe and the new cria. The farm is only about 10 minutes away from our house so of course mom rushed right over. Mom did some of her vet tech stuff and talked with Mr. John on the phone a couple of times to make sure that she did everything that Mr. John and Ms. Sarah would do if they had been there. The new cria was a bit on the small side, but so was Zoe when she had been born. The cria started nursing and after mom gave Zoe a shot she started producing ample milk for the baby. Mom didn't get home until late that night but she said she felt all good inside about having been able to help out with Zoe. The next day mom and dad went over to the farm to see the baby which had by then been named Mr. D.J. Below we have posted picture of the mom, Zoe, with her lollipop face, and her beautiful cria, Mr. D.J. If you click on them you should be able to see an enlarged version.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
