The First Annual

Hey Hounders,
Bag Lady Shiloh here with two important announcements.
Please become a Facebook Fan of Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary;  just go to their Fan Page and select to become a fan.  We'd appreciate it if you could do that; thanks.

Twinkie (boy, they're my favorite; oh NOT that kind of Twinkie?)  Well Twinkie, the dog (actually the tiny dog) is sponsoring the Global Animal Blogging Event and y'all are invited to participate.
Twinkie says:
Heads up, furiends. I'm preparing the 1st Annual International Animal Blogging Event. It will take place, right here, on this blog, beginning April 1st and ending on April 18th, when all the winners will be announced. I will accept links March 31- April 10th. We can all come together and have lots of fun. The rules are quite simple. If you want to participate, you to have to place the event's logo on your sidebar, email me a link to the post with the event's logo (yes same logo but on your actual post) and instructions for your readers. You just have to figure out your one or more giveaways--that's up to you. I will then glance at your post and if it's G-rated and satisfies the two conditions, I'll post it on my blog for all the others to share and be able to visit with ease. Those of you who don't want to give away anything, can still participate. You can just use the links to get to meet new furiends and if you like, leave a comment (only one per post) so that you can become eligible to get the giveaway. This is a blogging event for bloggers. This is important as we, the active participants, will need to contact you at the end of the event to find out where to mail the prizes. We are all going to be winners here. We'll either gain new friends or prizes or both.

Until then: TELL ALL YOUR FURIENDS! When I say anything, I mean anything from tiny Sugar Gliders, to crazy coyotes. SPREAD THE WORD and let's have some fun!

I am looking for a cool badge/logo and a catchy name/acronym (such as: International Animal Blogging Event/IABE, or All Critters United/ACU etc). Since I came to you my close furiends feel free to brainstorm with me. "
Interesting... We are gonna take part as active participants and we are even go to have a give away prize to add to the event, we'll post a photo of it on a later post.  So we're posting the information below that is available over at Twinkie's blog in order to spread the word and you should also help spread the word.  Hey, why sit around the house looking bored when you can participate and have some fun.  Oh yeah, we will have to post the GABE logo on our entry post and on our side bar as part of our entry requirement.  We've already put it on the sidebar and we will include it in our entry post wihich we have to submit to Twinkie.  If your gonna participate you can put the badge on your side bar now, directions are in the below information.

GABE for Dummies

As we're nearing the start of our first annual Global Animal Blogging Event, I have the feeling I need to review the rules. There aren't many, so bare with me.
{You're getting very sleepy, you're relaxing your tails, your ears are perking up, and you are getting more focused. Here we go!}

Spread the word!!! It'll make all the difference for all of us participating.

***I have broken us down into two groups. Group A, the Active participants and Group P, the Passive participants. Both groups get to have fun. Here's how.

GROUP A: Active

Before March 31st: place the badge  on your sidebar linking to the GABE page (you can find the badge, code and instructions inside the GABE page--second tab up top, and that's how you help spread the word)

On or after March 31st, post about GABE and use the badge/logo in that post. Tell us why you're participating and what you're willing to give away. Tell us anything you like. You can have one or more prizes and it's all up to you. Here's a link to one of my posts when I participated in a similar event (start reading after the huge "Thank You") You only post ONCE for our event.
TIP: After your GABE post, life in blogland continues as usual. You keep posting the way you desire, once a day, once a week, Wordless Wednesday... Remember, the participants will only have your GABE post link. After that it's their choice if they wan to explore around more.

Email me the link to that specific post. That's the link I'm going to use for our new furiends to find you. My email: twinkietinydogATaolDOTcom

Visit the GABE page and Start clicking on the participant list of links to find new critters and their giveaways. Leave a comment under each GABE post you visit if you want to be eligible to win.

On April 18th, pick your winner or winners, depending on what you're decided. You can use any unbiased method to pick your winner. I prefer using RANDOM but that's just me. You now have to A. Notify the winner(s) by Monday, April 19th and then mail away your giveaway. That's it!

GROUP P: Passive

Starting April 1st, follow Step 5. That's that!

Any questions? I'll closely read your comments, as usual, and then, depending on how clear you all are I'll either reply individually or do a Q&A type of post tomorrow. - TWINKIE

One of our blogging acquaintences, Dagwood, has gone to the Rainbow Bridge on his 14th birthday.  Could you please take a moment to stop by his blog and leave a word for his mom and dad who are hurting so right now; and we wouldn't want them to think that nobody cares. We'd do it for you.

Luke, our newest spokesdog for Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary, says that we need your help!

Detailed instructions are on the right side bar.

Three year old Luke is a total sweetheart.  He has never met a person or pet that he didn't love.  Luke is eager to please, and he is crate trained.  Luke is also deaf, so he will need a fenced yard and someone who will understand his only handicap is his inability to hear.  Luke is in a situation a lot like our dog Radar who is blind.Luke needs a home.  If you can't adopt, maybe you can sponsor.

Hey there all of you!

I'm just popping by to say another big THANK YOU for all your lovely comments and special prayers for us all! You are absolutely FANTASTIC in your resolve to bring good cheer....and I am really grateful!

As for the blogging event...we too are also not sure. We have our hands so full at the moment that I think we'll probably just become passive onlookers.

(Oh by the would be so nice to hear a little bit more about 'RADAR'! I think your experiences with this special pooch may be incredibly newsworthy!

But pleas give special hugs from MAXMOM to all your beautiful Goldens...and honorary Goldens. We love you too!

Take care and lotsaluv and lotsalicks

Well, Muzzer didn't say YES, but she did say she will "think about it." Thanks for telling us about GABE.

What a post. Already did the Fan Page and even checked Luke out, regardless of the fact that he's far and we're at full capacity. As you can see from your comments so far (three out of five are common friends) many are hesitant and many are on vacation. So, extra thank yous for posting such a detailed GABE post. I really liked your blog and the messages you're conveying. I've become a follower :)

We are sorry about your friend having to go to the bridge. It is always very sad to read.

We are sending purrs for Luke to find a wonderful forever home soon!

What a sweet and handsome boy Dagwood was--I will certainly visit his blog. You are again so kind to let us know when someone needs a lift!
I hope your week is off to a good start!

RIP Dagwood. It's always sad to hear about another dog passing.

GABE sounds like an interesting idea. We'll have to think about it.

Why, oh why, do all of the wonderful dogs have to be so far away from us? Luke is precious!

We voted for you and we also became a fan of yours. Anything else? Oh, I know someone who be able to do a great button/logo for you. Let us know if you would like us to steer you in her direction!

National Canine Cancer Foundation

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
