SUNDAY FUNNIES AND NOT SO FUNNY STUFF

 THE FUNNY
Hey Hounders,
Boru here with a Brusser intellectual joke for the bipeds and feline readers.  This joke is above the funny quotient of mostly all canines.
A famous Viking explorer returned home from an extended voyage and found his name missing from the town register.  His wife insisted on complaining to  the local civic official who apologized profusely saying, "I must have taken Leif off my census."

AND THE NOT SO FUNNY

Hey Hounders,
Hunger and shelter are serious problems.  What do dogs do when they're hungry?  Yep, that's right - they beg.  So consider this a "beg" from us Bumpass Hounds.  We have a very serious problem.  Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary could sure use some help from our readers.  They need a lot of help, but if we all chip in just a little help and then add it all together it might really be the lot of help that AHGRR needs.  So we're asking you to give up some little treat that you give yourself this week and send the money that you would have spent on that indulgence to AHGRR instead.  Nothing radical but something that you'll miss so that you know that you made a sacrifice; that's all.  Any of you Catholics can use it as a Lentil (isn't that soup?) sacrifice to ease your Catholic guilt. The AHGRR Website tells you how to help out and Ms. Carol has the email addresses and website address at the bottom of her letter.  Remember, it's Sunday and both GOD and DOG are watching you.
Hi Everyone:
This has been such a heavy intake week that I thought I'd get this newsletter out in hopes that some of these dogs might find sponsors to help defray their vet bills/boarding bills.
We are being hit very hard right now with intakes - - - - and have very few adoptions happening.  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Blondie - this poor baby's elderly owner had to leave her at a high kill shelter when he could no longer care for her.  She's not even a year old - - - - - - - She is safe now, was spayed and vetted yesterday, and will board until transport is arranged next week.
Blondie after being hosed down at the shelter - on her way to safety

Zoe - 11 year old Zoe was "breeding stock", who was kept outside.  She and her sister, Crystal, started barking for attention and were dumped at a shelter in S. WV.  They are both safe now - will be spayed as soon as the veterinarians can fit them on their schedule, and will board until the beginning of the week, when they will be transported here.
Zoe - still at the shelter in this picture - but safely boarding now.

Crystal - Crystal is Zoey's 10 year old "sister".  She is also now safely boarding at our vet's awaiting surgery and transport.
Crystal - now safe in boarding

Patti - Poor little Patti may have been hit by a car prior to going to the shelter.  She has a limp in a rear leg and part of her tail needed to be amputated.  She is safe at the shelter awaiting transport.
Patti - notice the rear leg being held up

Cosby - Cosby was abandoned at a car wash alongwith another golden we think may have been his Mom.  Another rescue rescued his Mom, but Cosby, who may be mixed (with lab? - hard to tell), was left behind.  Cosby is now in quarantine at a S. VA vet hospital as he became quite sick after our volunteer pulled him from the shelter.  We need help with his vet/boarding bills - - - - - - - we think he will be fine - and will be well enough to travel by next weekend.
Cosby - resting after leaving the shelter.

Carlisle - no picture yet - is a gorgeous purebred golden boy who ended up in a high kill shelter after his owners abandoned him along a busy roadway.  He is safe today - awaiting neuter - and boarding until transport.

Sadly, this has been what a typical week here looks like.  These dogs desperately need sponsors to help defray some of their vet/boarding bills.  I know times are tight for all of us, so if you could just get the word out that we could use come help, we'd appreciate it.
Thank you, everyone, for your continued support.  You are the reason we are still able to save lives.  THANK YOU - again and again.
Carol

A VERY SPECIAL PUP
Three year old Luke is a total sweetheart.  He has never met a person or pet that he didn't love.  Luke is eager to please, and he is crate trained.  Luke is also deaf, so he will need a fenced yard and someone who will understand his only handicap is his inability to hear.  Luke is in a situation a lot like our dog Radar who is blind.Luke needs a home.  If you can't adopt, maybe you can sponsor.

You have the best funnies!!

Yes, I was suffering from a limerick disorder for days... it was quite annoying. Fortunately, I'm back to my old self, although after reading your comments today, I felt a relapse coming on. Stop it. Please.

Thanks for stopping by my blog with well-wishes. You're right about Radar's blindness. I get around just fine! I'll do some more reading later, now I must rest more.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
