THE TORTURE DEVICE Sophie's "Torture Device" is called a "Bite Not" collar. Dad has it working really good now simply by making a few adjustments. Mom got it online out of a catalog from Care-A-Lot Pet Supply in Virginia Beach, VA (www.carealotpets.com); but it's probably available at a lot of pet places. You can check it out at:

http://www.carealotpets.com/Products/Bite-Not-Collars__239e.aspx

It is also available for cats:

(Care to try it Huffle? How about you Fin?  Wilbur?)

Dad says that although it looks uncomfortable, Sophie seems fine with it. She can do a lot more stuff than she could do with the Cone Of Shame (C.O.S.).  She can lay down, lift her head up and down, eat out of her normal feeding bowl, etc.  She doesn't get stuck on the stairs, she doesn't knock all of the "Been There; Done That" magnets off of the fridge; she isn't  the proverbial bull in a china shop anymore. She doesn't make mom scream when she walks by her. Dad doesn't cuss when she walks by him. It seems to be just a way better deal than the C.O.S. and those soft "Comfy Cones" didn't work on us big dogs; they're very easy to bend and proved rather useless on us.  Comfy Cone collars might work OK on FooFoo dogs (y'all know who you are and we luv ya) and kitties but we rate them unsat for GRs and Newfs. The Bite Not collar is all lined on the inside with a soft fleecy material and the whole thing is machine washable. Mom and dad put the big old Elizabethan Collar in the trash today so we figure that the Bite Not collar is the new bite/lick restraint of choice around here now. Dad figures it'll be a lot easier to stow (Navy talk for put away) and to put on and take off. It has a built in muzzle strap too but we don't need that; except it might shut Sophie up from barking at all of the rest of us - Bitch (literally of course).

Thank you for letting us know where to get one! We are hoping to not have a need for one - but you never know!

That collar looks a lot more comfy than the COS, that's fur sure. We've even seen a soft version of the COS that replaces those old hard, plastic ones. Thank goodness people are thinking about our comfort when we don't feel so swell.

Just stopping by to thank you so much for all the kind words when I was sick. Hearing that so many of our DWB frinds ,like Jubal and JEB made it throught this auful thing reaaly helped Mommy deal with this. We have so much catching up to do. Please come back over and watch the video about fostering and rescue Mommy posted last night.

You are quite the family of rescues and Mommy is so proud of all of you.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
