GRACY'S ALL WASHED UP

Hey Hounders, We were all laying around the kitchen last night after supper, licking our chops and butts and stuff and talking about how to help Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary win The Animal Rescue Site's All-Star shelter challenge.

That new kid, Patti Whackit, had this idea that we should ask y'all if you could ask your friends to vote.  Maybe even have them ask their friends and so on and so on and so on.  That would get AHGRRS a gazillion votes.  So we made up this note that y'all can cut and paste into an email to everyone in your address book.  It sure would help and your friends can't stay mad at you too long.  They all probably already think that you're obsessed with helping homeless animals and won't hold it against you.

Hi!  I'm writing to tell you about The All-Star Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge - together with Petfinder, starting May 17, 2010.  The Animal Rescue Site is awarding $100,000 in grants to eligible Petfinder.com member rescue organizations to help animals.  The grand prize is a $10,000 grant, and there are many other prizes!  Visit www.theanimalrescuesite.com to vote every day and learn more.  You don't have to register, and voting is free.  We voted for Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary in Capon WV and ask that you to do the same.  But you can support your own favorite shelter; just vote today and everyday!  Thank you!

Please give it a try.

GRACIE'S ALL WASHED UP

AND HUNG OUT TO DRY
Gracie is a character, according to mom and dad, according to us she's a nut job.  She does lots of really weird things.  She actually gets along with the two big Maine Coon Cats, Boru and Alex, even though they're each like 3 times her size.  She even assists them in making poor Jenny's life miserable by chasing her around the house even though Jenny's twice Gracie's size (Jenny's a wimp).  Gracie is always getting into what mom and dad call "mischief" but if we did those things we'd be in big  T-R-O-U-B-L-E  Seems like a double standard to us.  Jenny has a couple of roller toys in the MBR bathroom tub and she hops in there and swats those things around like she's playing racquetball.  One of her favorite perches is the kitchen sink dish rack basket.  She plops her little butt down in that thing all of the time and just watches the kitchen goings on.  Boru tried it once but the basket collapsed into the sink cuz Boru weighs a ton and a half; Gracie can't weigh like more than 5 pounds max.  Max on the other hand weighs about 30 times what Gracie weighs.

STAND-UP BORU

Hey Hounders,
How's everybody doing today?  Did ya have a tough day at the office or on the job, well TOO BAD.
I was sitting on the kitchen table this morning while dad was reading the Bumpass Gazette.  Dad always checks the BG to see if there are any Goldens listed and what their circumstances are.  When he was looking through the classified section, my favorite, I noticed this ad:

 FREE PUPPIES:
1/2 Cocker Spaniel, 1/2 sneaky neighbor's dog.

Does that qualify as a designer dog?

So here are a few quick questions to ask your friends during the day for no apparent reason other than to demonstrate your mental superiority and vast accumulation of knowledge:

What Do You Call a Boomerang That Doesn't Work?
A Stick.

What Do You Call Cheese That Isn't Yours?
Nacho Cheese.

What Do You Call Santa's Helpers?
Subordinate Clauses.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
