The SS Ka-Ching
Patti inspects the ship while Sophie scratches an itch.
It's me, Abby (Dabby-Doo) just laying out on the front porch watching Patti and Sophie inspect our boat, and more importantly, with a followup report on the launch of the $$ Ka-Ching (that's what dad calls our boat). Mom and dad have been cleaning up the ole tub for the last couple of weeks. Dad did some more work on it this morning. The motor kicked over OK and he did some other stuff that needed attention. Mom and dad set sail out of our driveway at about 1:30 pm without nary a pup on board. So we've had to paste together tonight's narrative from tidbits of "conversation" that we were privy to upon their return. Mom drove back with the Suburban and trailer, sans boat, at about 2:00 pm. The plan was for dad to evidently call mom once he got the boat out on the lake and he'd drive it up to our slip which is about a half mile further up on the lake than where they launch it in. After an hour dad hadn't called so mom called him. He was still tied up in the launch area and couldn't get the boat motor to start. He said it seemed to be spurting so he'd keep trying and call mom back. After another hour, around 3;30 pm, dad called to brag that he had the motor started and was gonna let it run for about 15 minutes at the pier before moving over to our slip. Fifteen minutes later dad called to say that he could only get about 1400 rpm out of the motor; it idles at about 1000 rpm. If dad tried to put on more power the engine would conk out. Good news, it kept starting every time now. Dad told mom to come down and they'd take it out on the lake to see if they could clear the carburetor. So mom took the Burban and trailer back to the launch area. Evidently mom got on the boat and they went out on the lake but couldn't get the engine to clear or run anything above 1600 rpm. Then the WX went to crap; it rapidly clouded over and got real windy. Dad headed for the launch ramp to pull the boat out but the wind was fighting the boat. Eventually they got to the launch ramp but the wind was bashing the boat against the pier. Mom had to hold it off the pier while dad got the trailer backed down the boat ramp. The boat motor didn't have enough power to drive the boat up onto the trailer bunks so dad had to wade out to the boat with the pull strap and hook it under the boat. The strap was not quite long enough so dad had to back the Suburban further down the ramp. Now it was starting to rain along with the wind. Dad got the boat connected and managed to crank it up onto the trailer while mom got in the drivers side of the Burban. Dad got the boat up onto the trailer but he had left the engine running in gear to keep the boat pushing towards the trailer. So dad had to climb up into the boat and kill the motor. He then told mom to drive home while he was still up in the boat stowing stuff. So dad was riding in the boat, in the wind and rain, while mom beat feet towards home. Of course as soon as they pulled into the driveway the wind kinda subsided and it only rained for about 5 minutes. So now the plan is to take the boat in for an engine tune-up or carburetor cleaning; whatever it takes to make it run: $$ Ka-Ching. The 4th of July fireworks on the lake are next Saturday night but we might not have the boat.back by then. Guess it's time to be nice to the neighbors with boats that run. Well, mom and dad got home safe and sound but mom says that it was way too stressful. Hopefully we won't be facing a treat cutback to get the $$ Ka-Ching running again.

ALERT - ALERT
AHGRRS is still #1 in WV with 22.46% of the state vote; but that's down from 22.70 % yesterday. The new #2 shelter, P.U.R.R. West Virginia, Inc., has rapidly moved up to surpass The Ritchie County Animal Shelter for #2 position with 12.81% of the state's votes, yesterday they only had 11.03%. The new #2 shelter has been gaining on every one else daily. The is reminiscent of the last challenge when we were ahead and then lost in the stretch run; probably because we were sure that we had it won. PLEASE DO NOT GET COMPLACENT. We need you all to vote everyday from as many computers as you can access.. Try to get your friends to vote. The gap between us and P.U.R.R. is only 9.65% that's considerably closer than the 11.67% gap that we had yesterday; that's closed by 2.02 % from yesterday. No more double digit lead. Please don't get complacent. P.U.R.R. is rocketing up rapidly. We are worried.-
