WORDY WEDNESDAY

ALL-STAR SHELTER CHALLENGE
PLEASE VOTE
AHGRRS SHELTER DOG
"KING"

Check the top of the right side bar. --->:

18 August 2010: AHGRRS is #1 in WV with 22.32% of the state vote;  We're down 1 position to #65 nationally. The #2 shelter (P.U.R.R. West Virginia Inc.) has 11.96%.  They have gained ground nationally; they are up to #147.   The end is in sight; only 5 more voting days, less than a week,  in the contest.  Thank You for voting to keep us in the running for the $1,000.00 state award.

Please don't get complacent.  We're holding our own right now and it's looking good, but we've slipped badly before and things can change drastically in a wink of a cat's eye if we all don't all
KEEP VOTING EVERYDAY.
Don't hesitate to call in reinforcements (friends).
Perhaps you can copy the info from the top right side bar and post it on your blog to help us out in our effort.
PLEASE

STAND-UP BORU
Hey Hounders,
Thanks for tuning in to my performance.  I've been playing at Cat Skills.  Get it? Cat Skills.  Like I'm a cat with skills!  It's a play on words.
It's GReat to be back for a return engagement at The Bumpass Hounds and Kitties (TBH&K) Comedy Club.  I sure hope that y'all enjoy yourselves and please don't forget to tip the wait staff generously.
Y'all might not know that I'm getting a little long in the tooth, whatever the heck that means.  I'm 8 years old now so I've acquired some wisdom and knowledge, as well as insights, that I'd like to share with all of you cats and dogs, oh yeah, and people, out there.  So here are some of my noted "Accumulated Truths For the Chronologically Advantaged:"

I think part of a people's best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

I've noticed that nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're totally wrong.

I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was a young kitten.

There is great need in the blog world for a sarcasm font.

How the hell are you people supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

Was learning cursive really necessary for you people?

Map Quest really needs to start their directions on like about step # 5 or so. I'm pretty sure that Dad knows how to get out of our neighborhood.

I don't know about you, but I think that obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told us how the person died.

I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

Bad decisions make the best stories.

Well, that's about all I have time for this evening.  I'll be here for the entire week, month, even the year maybe.  You're a wondeful audience.  See ya.

AHGRRS NEWS:
A LETTER FROM MS. CAROL

Hi Everyone:
I want to apologize to everyone for "disappearing" - - - - - but once again - I killed another computer - - - - - - all information was saved - except the newslist - lol - - - - and then the new computer crashed TWICE - and destroyed what I had reconstructed.  I must be tough on these machines - - - -
And, I've held off on a formal announcement of news because things have been a little more busy and hectic than usual.  My beloved husband, Skip has been very ill.  He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago - and underwent extensive surgery on July 23rd.  He is home and recuperating  - - and we are hoping for the best - though we understand that his road to recovery will be a long - and sometimes bumpy one.
Almost Heaven is open - we are accepting or referring all dogs that need us - and we are trying to adopt dogs out (which has been slow - - - - ).  We have NO intention of closing this rescue - - that will NOT happen - but we have decided that we need to hire help - and we are making every effort to find someone locally who can work here a few days a week - and give my poor old back a rest, run some errands, take the dogs to the vet, etc.  (Hopefully, it will be someone strong to lift all those bags of food and water jugs - lol.)
Needless to say, fund raising has become even more important as we are going to have to stretch our budget to include our "hired hand".  If you are selling on ebay, please don't forget us.  The more people who list benefiting us - the more times ebay will solicit funds on our behalf.  If you have any fund raising ideas - please let me know.
Now - here are the latest pins/magnets from Jenny McMurtrie.  Please let me know if you are interested in any of them.  All pins/magnets are now offered at $9 each - including shipping and handling.  Please be sure to specify whether you want a pin or a magnet.
Special Edition - July 4th pin/magnet
July Pin/Magnet

August Pin/Magnet

We have a very limited supply of prior months.  Please ask before you order those.
We thank everyone who has donated, supported, prayed, and helped us.  We especially want to thank Ann-Marie (<--That's our Mom), Pam, and Scott for coming out and caring for the dogs while Skip was in the hospital.
Please keep us and all our orphans in your thoughts and prayers.  Donations at this time are needed - - - - no amount is too small.
Thank you - - - - - - - -
Carol

Hey Boru...muzzer disagrees with the Map Quest thing. She thinks directions should say:

Go out to the garage and get in the car. DON'T FOREGT TO OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR. Check to make sure car is in park and DON'T FOREGT TO OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR! Start Engine. Check rear view mirror to make sure that you DON'T FOREGT TO OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR !

Return to house, pick up purse and papers you forgot. Start again at
DON'T FOREGT TO OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR

Back out. Now check to make sure that you CLOSE THE GARAGE DOOR!

Thanks, Boru, we enjoyed your stand up routine.

That's quite a challenge Ms Carol has been facing. We send lots of purrs and tail wags that her husband's road to recovery is smoother than expected!

Please send our healing thoughts to Skip and Carol. They are rescue rangers extraordinaire! We are so glad they won the WV prize money. They had our votes -- every day.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
