THE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE

Hey Hounders,
Sophie (a.k.a.  Soph-a-dof) here to wish y'all a Very Merry Christmas.  Sometimes this joyous time of the year is tempered with a touch of melancholy and this is one of those times.  Our friend The Luke is sick and needs our prayers and now we have found out that on Christmas Eve Eve we lost a DWB hero.  Miss Opy, one of the founding dogs of Dogs With Blogs (DWB), has crossed The Rainbow Bridge.  Please check out our buddy Homer's tribute and stop by Miss Opy's blog to leave your thoughts for Brooke and Kyle, the founders of DWB.  Brooke was with Miss Opy to hold her paw when she crossed The Rainbow Bridge.  The courage to let go when the time arrived is the true testimonial of unselfish and unconditional love.

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this – the last battle – can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me ‘til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its’ last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

We have been thinking of our good friend Luke every day, and sending prayers and good thoughts his way.

We will stop by and give our love to Opy's family.

What a beautiful poem.

Oh my dogness! Mom had never seen that poem before and got all kinds of leaky! Since they did this for Lucky back in Oct it was very close to mom's heart. Our prayers to Opy's family, we know how hard it is!

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
