HAPPY BIRTHDAY
SHELBY BELLE
1-7-2005
Shelby Belle joined the pack at six weeks of age on February 23, 2005. These photos were taken the very next morning when she joined the pack. Nothing held her back, she joined right in on all the activities and she was warmly received by the pack, especially by Jubal and J.E.B.

Subject: Re: ANGEL'S VETERINARY COST
Hi
Thanks for your kind words and your offer to help with Angel's expenses. My understanding at the moment is that Angels friends and neighbors have covered her expenses. I will however forward your letter and address to Angel's mom in the event more is needed or if some unforeseen complications set in.
Angel is doing very well. she had surgery yesterday to treat the numerous puncture wounds and lacerations sustained in the altercation with the cougar. Her most serious wound was a puncture right through the skull bone over the frontal sinus over her right eye. the cat's fang had broken though the first layer of bone and fractured a fragment an inch square loose from the top of her skull. we were able to wire it back in place and rebuild the damaged area . If the fang had penetrated a half inch further back, it would have been the end. We are expecting a good recovery. Her eye is fine but the surrounding periocular tissue is very swollen , but coming down. there is a lot of bruising on the side of her face and neck. its too early to tell if there is any nerve damage to side of her face. if there is it should be just partial and not impede in any way.
Angel is a lovely dog, has an indomitable spirit and is recovering well from her ordeal. She has been out for several walks today and is
already bouncing around like nothing happened. we expect to be able
to discharge her in a few days.
The film crew from Global TV, Inside Edition and the local newspaper were here to film her today and she was jumping gleefully and licking camera lenses with delight!
Thank you again for your interest and support.
Kind regards

HOMER J. HOME SAFE AND SOUND FOR RECOVERY
Hey Hounders,
Dad left work today in time to get to CRAH by 5:30 PM in order to pick up Homer J. and bring him back home to his canine and feline brothers and sisters. We all missed the patriarch last night and no one tried to fill his spot on the big bed in the MBR. Dad says that LVT Jessica said that Homer had done very well. She said that she had taken homer for his wake up walk after he came out of his anesthesia. He has about 7 stitches where Dr Collins took the growth off of his foot. The next most went where they took out his cauliflower mole. The big flap mole on his front leg looks like 3 stitches and Dr. Collins just clipped off his small flap and he doesn't have any stitches where that was removed. He'll be on an antibiotic for a few days and he has to go back to CRAH in 2 weeks to have his stitches removed. We expect that mom will be able to remove the stitches here at home. Dad said that Homer was very glad to see him and that he made a beeline for the CRAH door to get to the suburban. On the way home dad stopped at RHOB to get Homer only one McDouble for his dinner. When he got home at about 7 PM, Homer jumped right out of the car and did his business. Dad said Homer had obviously been holding his water for a while because it was like Tom Hanks in A League of Their Own. Dad said Homer was like the Duracell Bunny; he just kept on going and going. When they came in the house Jack was really excited about Homer coming home. Once he was safely back in the house, Homer got sleepy again and went into his spot on the big bed in the MBR and took a long nap. After a couple of hours he got up and dad gave us all our dinner. Dad checked out all of Homer's incisions and spread some Neosporin on them all. Homer J. is still a bit lethargic but dad says that isn't unusual following surgery on a senior like Homer. It'll take a day or two for Homer J. to get his energy back. He had no problem eating his dinner though. We want to thank everyone for sending good vibes and prayers Homer's way while he was in the hospital. It is comforting to know that there are so many caring pups and people and kitties too. All that caring must've worked cuz Homer J. is A-OK.

HOMER J. IS IN THE HOSPITAL
Hey Hounders,Yesterday dad came home from work earlier than usual. Homer had a 5:30 PM pre-surgical review appointment at CRAH with Dr. Collins. Mom is still not very mobile and really couldn't handle Homer alone. Dad and mom took Sophie along to keep Homer J. company on the ride up to the city. On the way we hear tell that they stopped at Ronald's House of Beef and bought Homer and Sophie some McDoubles for dinner since dad hadn't fed us yet and Homer couldn't eat after 9 PM. When we got to CRAH, Dr. Collins examined all of the moles that dad had found on Homer. She went over the procedures with mom and dad and promised that she would take very good care of Homer. Homer was weighed
in at less than 80 pounds (76lbs) so his sleeping gas bill won't be as high as originally expected. Sophie got weighed and matched Homer at 76lbs. Dr. Newman was there too and she congratulated Sophie on her amazing weight loss over the past year. Mom and dad visited for a short while but then the LVT took Homer back to his pre-surgical quarters to get a good night's sleep before his surgery this morning. The plan is for dad to pick up Homer J. on his way home from work this afternoon. Boru is worried about his buddy Homer and asked us all to make a howl to DOG for Homer's surgery to go well. We would like all of you to please keep Homer J. in your thoughts and prayers today so that there won't be any complications and he comes through A-OK. We'll post about Homer J. again tomorrow.

NOT MUCH GOING ON

-Hey Hounders,Alex and Boru here today. Things are quiet. No more lights and all the decorations are down from the inside the house and off of tree. Dad says it's a bit too cold to be taking down the outside house lights but they're unplugged. Dad will take them down when it gets a bit warmer; like in July or August maybe. Fortunately for us, dad hasn't cut it down yet so we can still lounge around under it. Word is that it'll be chopped down and put back into its' box sometime this week. Homer goes to Doc Witter's this afternoon to
spend the night before his surgery tomorrow. He's having some of his Bumpass Bumps removed. In upcoming news, Shelby Belle, the puppy from hell, will be celebrating her 5th birthday on Thursday. She was born on January 7, 2005. Mom and dad both say that she was the cutest puppy ever and that she's still very beautiful (yuck!). WE REST OUR CASE
Hey Hounders,
Well, this is the last of the photographic evidence of the physical abuse and humiliation that we suffered by being made to wear a stupid Mickey Mouse santa Hat with Ears and a Santa scarf. You've seen the other 10 victims over the past two days of testimony and now we call forth the final three victims. - The Bumpass Hounds and KittiesAt least Sophie enjoyed the bribe cookie.

Shiloh can't believe what dad has done to her.
Shelby Belle's disdain can not be mis-interpreted.

MORE INCRIMINATING EVIDENCE
Here's a bit more proof of the utter humiliation forced upon us by our dad during yesterday's photo shoot ordeal which we described in yesterday's post. Where's the SPCA when you need them? We should have dialed 911 to report domestic abuse. Somebody pass me a plain paper bag to put over my head, please. I don't want to be recognized.
- The Bumpass Hounds and Kitties.Read Jack's mind; "Shoot me. Someone, please, shoot me."
At least Radar couldn't see the humiliation of it.

Max hung his head from embarrassment to be in this get up.
Nothing phases Jubal; he's been through it all before.
Jenny's uncomfortable, mostly because she's in Boru's spot.
LOOK WHAT HE DID TO US!
Hey Hounders,
As you know, we've been really behind on everything. Dad had a big work project going on in December that needed to be done by the end of the year. Mom and dad went to Florida and left us with a sitter. A big storm snowed us in with about 2 feet of snow and made mom and dad come back early. An hour after they got home dad left to go get Radar from Sissy Sarah's house and after he left mom fell down the stairs and broke her ankle and foot. Dad had to turn around and come home and him and mom spent the entire evening at the hospital emergency room. The next day dad had to take mom to an awfulpedic doctor for more xrays and a walking boot. We were still snowed in with only the Rescue Wagon Bronco able to get through the driveway snow. Our Christmas shopping wasn't done, cards hadn't been mailed, we were in bad shape. We were all together for Christmas and that's all that mattered. Well, fun time is over. Today dad said that since we didn't get any photos of the snow or Christmas because of all the commotion he thought we should try to get some of us TBH&Ks before he takes down the tree tomorrow. So this morning he humiliated each of us, one at a time, by making us "pose" by the Christmas Tree with a red Santa scarf and a Christmas Mickey Mouse Ears Hat that mom got at Walt Disney World. Ben and the fellas thought that they had been embarrassed by what their peeps did to them, but that was nothing. We were robbed of our dignity. What self respecting Golden Retriever would be caught dead in this get up. Well, that's a might strong but you get the idea. Not one of us was cooperative. We all had to be bribed with cookies, which is why some of us are licking our lips. Here's a sample of what went on:
Doesn't J.E.B. look ecstatic about his appearance?

Homer J. looks thrilled to be participating.
No big deal for Boru; that's his regular hide-out under the tree.
Alex also likes hanging out under the tree; something unique to cats we suspect.
Abby must've still had bribe cookie stuck in her mouth.
So, what do you thing about this situation. What would be an appropriate pay-back. And there's more evidence that we'll show y'all tomorrow. We can't believe that our dad would do this to us. Oh the humanity. We'll never be able to show our faces in PetSmart again.- The Bumpass Hounds and Kitties.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET
If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.
