SUNDAY FUNNIES

BORU'S FUNNY & NOT FUNNY

Boru her with the Sunday AM news.  This morning, early this morning (Sunday) at exactly 0623 hours, all of the smoke alarms in the house went off simultaneously.  Of course we were all awaken by the shrill noise.  I did NOT like it all all.  Mom woke up shouting that the house was on fire.  Dad woke up and ran all over the house looking for the fire but couldn't find any smoke or nothing.  The stupid dogs all contributed to the noise by barking and howling along with the smoke detectors; kinda like "Sing Along With Mitch" but without Mitch and without the bouncing ball.  Dad opened the back deck door and put the 6 of the 8 house dogs out into the paddock.  He opened the front door and sent Sophie and Radar out into the front yard.  He then opened the sliding glass door to the deck and a few of the windows.  Fortunately it was above freezing outside as the house temperature went from very comfortable to very uncomfortable.  Meanwhile the shrilling continues; I wonder if the neighbors heard it?  Dad found a scented candle that had not been properly extinquished by "somebody" before the peeps went to sleep last night, but that has happened before without the smoke detectors going off.  Dad got the laundry room step ladder and tried to reach the living room smoke detector but it wasn't high enough.  Mom tried lying in bed with a pillow over her head; it didn't work.  So now mom has donned her Bose noise canceling headphones and is giving dad suggestions; since she had the headphones on she is inadvertently shouting her help.  It's been about 10 minutes now since the shrill started.  Dad decides he needs the 6 ft step ladder, which is out in the detached garage.  Dad's in his "GRUMPY" PJs, doesn't want to been seen outside (it's light by now) and it's cold outside.  So dad puts on his jeans and a sweatshirt and heads off to the detached garage.  He returns to the house via the basement kennel so he technically has now checked on Max and Shiloh.  They only start barking when dad checks on them; the shrilling is apparently just normal Newf singing to them.  Dad goes into his basement office and detaches the smoke detector there from the ceiling mount, it continued to shrill until he tapped it a few times and then it stopped.  Then he went into the family room and shut that one up.  He came upstairs and got the living room next.  Then he did the one in the master bedroom and when that on shut up so did the ones up on the second floor.  So then the only sound pervading through the neighborhood was the stupid dogs barking and howling.  i didn't like the shrill noise and I hunkered down on the stairway landing going down to the rec room in the basement; that's the stairs that mom fell down and broke her ankle and foot.  Anyhows, mom dad and all the puppers went back to bed after the shrill stopped and they didn't get up again until very late this morning.

After a 13 year hiatus Captain EO has returned to the Tomorrowland Theater in Disneyland.  The show ran from 1986 to 1997.  This 3-D production is back for an indefinite engagement.

This Sci Fi Musical features Michael Jackson as Captain EO leading his group of alien soldiers to deliver a gift to a wicked alien leader (Anjelica Houston) to bring peace to her planet.  The movie last 17 minutes and is still as mesmerizing as it was 24 years ago.

Social Security Funnies?

Just in case some of you younger folks (& some older ones) didn't know this.
It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it..
Doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican.. Facts are Facts!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Security_%28United_States%29

President Franklin Roosevelt (D) introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary, - No longer Voluntary
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual
Incomes into the Program,  - Now 7.65%
3.) That the money the participants elected to put Into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year, - No longer tax deductible
4.) That the money the participants put into the Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would Only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and, Under President Lyndon Johnson
(D) the money was moved to The General Fund and spent by Congress.
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees Would never be taxed as income. Under President Clinton
(D) up to 85% of your Social Security payments can be taxed.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are Now receiving a Social Security check every month -- And then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of The money we paid to the Federal government to 'put Away -- you may be interested in the following:
Q: How was Social Security moved from the Independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: President Lyndon Johnson
(D) and the democratically Controlled House and Senate introduced and passed legislation to do so.

Q: How was the income tax Deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The
democratically Controlled House and Senate introduced and passed legislation to do so.

Q: How was taxing of Social Security annuities implemented?
A: Under Preesident Clinton (D) and with Vice President Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US,
the democratically Controlled House and Senate introduced and passed legislation to do so.

Q: How was it determined to start giving Annuity payments to immigrants?
A: President Jimmy Carter(D) and the
the democratically controlled House and Senate introduced and passed legislation to do so.  Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments even though they never paid anything into it!
.
We're sure that all of the Social Security mess is really the fault of President G.eorge W. Bush; after all, isn't everything wrong with this country his fault?

AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT AFTER ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!

TO PROTECT AND TO SERVE

DANGEROUS JOB
Hey Hounders,
There was a shooting incident last night where our sissy and her husband work  They are both policemen; well sissy is a police woman.  Mom was studying last night when the phone rang; it was sissy's husband and he wanted to tell mom that there had been a shooting at their work but him and sissy were both OK.  Two other officers had been slightly wounded when they were shot by a guy who pulled out a gun as he approached a check point.  The officers returned fire and the suspect man was shot and later died.  Mom would have been very upset if she had heard about the incident on the TV, radio or computer and she hadn't already knowed that sissy and Da Beel were OK..  Thank you to both of them for their service.  We wish the two wounded officers a speedy recovery.

WHAT'S NEW AT AHGRR?

AHGRR NEWS UPDATE
Hey Hounders,
It's Radar, the blind (from birth), red Golden Retriever Bumpass Hound,  on the keyboard today.  Please pardon any typos as I'm totally blind and have to use the canine Braille system of typing, plus I haven't got oppossible thumbs..  (Enlarge my photo and look closely at my eyes and you'll appreciate what I'm dealing with here.)

Y'all know that I'm an Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary (AHGRR)  success story; I guess I'm supposed to have been dead for over a year now, but here I am enjoying the heck out of life with my brothers and sisters, both canine and feline.  Anyway, we got a newsletter update from Ms. Carol up at AHGRR  and we thought that you'd all like to read it and find out what's going on.  Maybe, if your situation permits, you can help out AHGRR if at all possible.  Remember, there's no such thing as doing too little unless you do nothing at all when you could do something.  We hope that you're all well and safe.  Don't forget to keep Max Dog in your prayers as he fights his battle with cancer.  Today is his 300th post, so stop by and congratulate him please. We all love him.
Here's Ms. Carol's newsletter about AHGRR.

We have lots of new faces here - and quite a few that are in boarding and will need to find homes soon.  Some of these pictures are from the shelter folks as the dogs are still in boarding and we have not been able to get good ones of them yet.

Clifford - 8 year old Clifford ended up homeless when his owner also became homeless.  He's a sweet dog, seems to get along with everything and everyone - and appears to have had good care in spite of his owners personal problems.  Clifford is subject to an occasional seizure, but they are so infrequent that the veterinarians to date have not felt medications were necessary.  A foster or adoptive home would be great for this boy.

Layla - such a horrible picture for such a beautiful 18 month old girl.  She was abandoned at a high kill WV shelter when she needed emergency medical treatment for pyometra.  Layla has been spayed and treated, and is boarding safely at a veterinary hospital awaiting transport.

Nellie - Another very pretty 18 month old girl whose rescue was held up by this terrible winter we've had here in WV.  Nellie's owner finally told us that she had placed Nellie in a good home - - - - - - but sadly, that home turned out to be the same high kill shelter that we found Layla in.  Nellie is safe now - - - - - boarding at a vet hospital and awaiting a better life.

Lexie Two - We got a call from a family who was unable to care for Lexie any more.  Little did we know that the lack of care was life threatening - as Lexie Two only weighed 30 pounds when our volunteers picked her up.  (Two other dogs in the home, small dogs, were fat and well fed.)  Lexie Two is now spayed, vaccinated, and gaining weight.  Her foster Mom says she is ready for her permanent home.
Penny - Elderly Black Lab - No Picture yet - but Penny came to us from a lady who rescued her when Penny's elderly owner became physically unable to care for her any more.  She is still being evaluated and is in an experienced foster home.  More news will follow.
We currently have 3 dogs in boarding.  We hope this is a temporary situation, but transport from certain areas has been difficult at best.  Murphy (photo at the bottom of blog page), Layla, and Nellie are all boarding.  Any help with this cost is appreciated.  If you would like to try fostering, please let me know.  We can always use the help.
Thank you, everyone for your ongoing support.  We could not do this without YOU.

HELP OUR SISSY, PLEASE.

 END OF WATCH - MEMORIAM
Hey Hounders,
It's me, your ole buddy Jubal, a.k.a. Big Jubes, with today's post.  Our sissy Sarah, and her Husband, Da Beel, are both polices. Sissy is a canine handler.  You may have seen our posts of her bomb sniffing dog, Aldo, playing with our own blind guy, Radar.  They is both Golden Retrievers but of the red variety.  Well, sissy had a very close friend who was a Virginia State Trooper.  Virginia State Trooper Jessica J Cheney was killed when hit by a car on Rte 1 in Stafford County, VA. Jessica was doing her job. Her "End Of Watch" (EOW) was 1/17/1998.  So here's the deal, the Toyota Racing Group (please disregard any "recall" thoughts) that supports the National Association for Stock Car Automotive Racing (NASCAR) is having a contest where one of their cars will be painted in a special design scheme for a race.  Well there is a design that is a memoriam for Trooper Jessica. We'd like y'all to go to the Toyota Racing site at http://www.sponsafier.com/#/gallery/view/120029 and vote for Trooper Jessica's memorial design. If you select the 3D view you'll be able to see Jessica's name and EOW date on the hood of the car.  It doesn't cost anything and you can vote every day for the next 13 days; so please vote from as many different computers as you have access to.  We would certainly appreciate it very, very much.  Sissy misses Jessica, who was robbed of her life in the line of duty at such a young age.

MONDAY BLAHS

DAD'S ON TRAVEL

Hey Hounders,  Radar and Sophie with a post for today. Well dad had to go out of town on business this morning and mom has tests in school today, tomorrow and Wednesday.  That means that our posts will be short if they happen at all.  We got dad to set us up with a Facebook page Sunday afternoon.  We wanted to be able to post a short segment of our blog with a link back to it on our Facebook page.  Clive and Khyra do that just about everyday, but our dad can't figure out how to do it so we evidently are not gonna be doing that for a while yet.  If any of you PC Blogger/Facebookers know how to do that, could you send us the instructions how to "bumpasshounds.hughes.net" so we can set it up before dad gets back Wednesday night.   Dad also got the automatic water filler/trough  in the Newf's pen fixed Sunday afternoon.  Shiloh had pulled the cow watering trough off of it's mounts and chewed up the plastic float valve.  Dad got some 2" galvanized hex screws with strong washer to remount the water trough back in the fence corner.  He had to go to Tractor Supply Company to buy a new water valve/float.  This time he splurged and paid an extra $3.00 to get a metal one; good luck with chewing on that Bag Lady.  Dad got it installed  with the close snoopervision provided by both Max and Shiloh out in the Newf pen.
We decided to check the rug under the kitchen table for any forgotten food scraps yesterday afternoon. Nada - Zilch - Numero Zero!  One of the other hounds, probably Homer J., had evidently already scoured every least little morsel.  We had tio wait until dinner for sustenance.  Well maybe we'll be up tomorrow but most likely not 'til Thursday.  Don't forget to vote for Almost Heaven golden Retriever Rescue in the Shelter Challenge Vote.

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.
- The Bumpass Hounds and Kitties

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
