THE NEWFS - PART 4

PLEASE DON"T FORGET TO VOTE IN THE ANIMAL RESCUE SITE'S SHELTER CHALLENGE (SEE BOTTOM OF THE POST).  WITHOUT YOUR VOTE TODAY, WE WILL BE FURTHER BEHIND AS OF TOMORROW.

EXCERPT FROM Wednesday, March 26, 2008

When last we posted The Newfs - Part 3, on Monday 1/17/2011, Homer J. had just moved into the pack as a Bumpass Hound.  We pick up the story from that point:.

YOUNG MAX
Christmas Max
THE GREAT CHRISTMAS PICTURE ADVENTURE:
The day, after Homer came to live with us, dad brought us into the house and brushed each one us, then we each got a bath and then we got brushed out again. We had to stay in our crates until that afternoon, we couldn't go out and play. Then all eight of us (8 then but 11 now) got in the suburban and went to get our Christmas pictures taken. Dad says that the trip was a real adventure. We went up to the Fredericksburg SPCA where the pictures were taken. I think that my picture came out best. I had fun exploring the photographer's trailer studio. The "Lil' Pals" people were really nice and they helped me look really good (http://www.lilpalsva.com/index.htm). Later dad had all of our pictures put into a composite for our Christmas cards. I guess that the card was a big hit because I looked so handsome in it. I really stood out, probably because I'm the biggest dog in the picture.
REUNITED WITH MY LONG LOST SISTER SHILOH:

SHILOH
One day when I was about 7 months old, mom got a phone call from Ms. Carol at BrookstoneNewfoundlands where I was born. It seems that somebody had returned a Newfoundland puppy and they needed to find a new home for it. Mom said that if Carol couldn't find a home for the dog that it could come live here. After a week Carol called mom again and the next Sunday, mom and dad and me got in the suburban to go get the unwanted puppy. I let dad drive with mom riding shotgun; I rode in back looking out the windows. When we got to Chesterfield, Ms. Carol was all glad to see me again. She was very nice to me when I was little and I remembered her (as Horton says: "elephants never forget"). Mom and Ms. Carol went inside while I stayed outside with dad. Soon mom and Ms. Carol came back out and they had another dog with them. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was my sister Shiloh (named after our mother). She hadn't changed much. She had a lot more black dots on her (ticking) and she had put on a LOT of weight (a whole lot), but it was definitely Shiloh. I couldn't believe that my own sister was coming home to live with us, forever. Can it get any better than this? (Yeah, we could have steak for dinner; like that'll ever happen.) It's great having Shiloh to play with, not that Abby and the Goldens aren't fun, but it is nice to have somebody like me. I'm not the odd man out now, even though dad says I'm still odd.

Shiloh ---->

Shiloh is just as odd if not more so. And she is even bigger than me, we'll she's taller, even though I think I weigh more than her. We have adjoining crates in the kennel and we play together in the paddock. We lie around and reminisce about our younger days at Brookstone.

We'll do the final chapter, Part  5, soon.  I hope you like my story about becoming a Bumpass Hound.

 HOMER'S SAGE WISDOM
ON AGING
ZEN MASTER HOMER J.
Hey Hounders, Zen Master of The Bumpass Hounds and Kitties, Homer J., here to impart a few observations of wisdom on growing older that I have developed through my lifetime experiences:

1. TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.

2. Your kids are becoming you...and you don't like them...but your grandchildren are perfect!

3. Going out is good; Coming home is better!

4. When people say you look "Great"... They add "for your age!"

5. When you needed the discount, you paid full price. Now you get discounts on everything... Movies, hotels, flights, but you're too tired to use them.

PLEASE VOTE FOR AHGRRS

The above link will take you to the Animal Rescue Site where you will get to click to donate a free bowl of food to homeless animals. After you do that you will be presented with a "Thank You" page; at the top center of that page please click on the "VOTE TODAY" button. That will then take you directly to the voting page. The only information that you need to enter is to select "WV" as the State from the drop down menu and enter "Capon" for the City. Then click on "Search." The page will then do its' thing and will end up showing "Almost heaven Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. Capon Bridge, WV 26714." A "VOTE" button will also appear. Click on that "VOTE" button. After you vote you will see a confirmation page that requires you to identify an animal photo; this eliminates illegal machine voting. The answer is simply the type of animal that you see; dog, cat, turtle, fish, cow, etc. - not a specific breed. You can cast one vote everyday from as many different computers to which you have access. Voting will run until August 22, 2010.  You can have the Animal Rescue Site send you a daily reminder to "click" for free food; then you can vote in the All-Star Shelter Challenge. The more friends you can rally to vote the better our chances of winning. Every vote, every day, every computer - counts.
In the West Virginia state competition AHGRRS had fallen to second place, by a considerable margin, as we predicted.  That can change over night so don't give up ---- VOTE  We've got 13.55% of the WV vote today, up from yesterday when we had 13.09% ;  #1 has 14.48% and yesterday they had 14.55%.  There's only a 0.93% gap (1.47% yesterday) which we can close in just a few days of heavy voting. We're now at #189 nationally; yesterday we were #196.  The WV #1 shelter is at #175 nationally (yesterday #175); now only 14 spots ahead of us; it was45 spots yesterday.
PLEASE HELP,
VOTE
AND PLEASE TRY TO GET OTHERS TO VOTE TOO

Max,
We did not know that about Shilo, what a wonderful thing to have your sister with you with the rest of the gang.
Homer, we agree with all the points you have made, as our paw challenged people are at that age.

That's a pretty neat story, Max. Glad you have your sister with you now so you aren't odd any more.

Max, you are a photogenic dog. The camera loves you, that's for sure. You should appear on the cover page of Vogue.

Love,
Homer

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
