MAX - CHAPTER NINE

FULL SPEED AHEAD MAX

GOING SWIMMING

SHILOH (L) + MAX (R
Hey Hounders,
Shiloh and I are Landseer dogs, a sub-breed of Newfoundland dogs.  One thing that's prominent in our characteristics is that we're water dogs; we love to swim.  One of the GReat things about being a Bumpass Hound is that we live on Lake Anna, VA.  Lake Anna is really two man made lakes; we live on the private, or warm, side.  Our lake is actually heated and doesn't freeze over in the winter; we could swim year round except we ice over on the walk home if it's really cold.out.
MAX + SHI SPLASHING
The public, or cold, side will freeze over when it gets cold in the winter.  This winter it never got cold enough for long enough time for it to ice over.  Well anyway, occassionally dad takes us down to one of our development's boat ramps and lets us go swimming.  We usually have to go early to avoid disturbing other residents; weekdays are better than weekends because there are fewer fishermen, boaters and jet skiers on the lake.
MAX is all wet
Going swimming lets us get some exercise and it also takes off our outer coating of dirt, leaves, and grim that we tend to pick up fro rolling around in our pen.
I remember once when cuzin Caitlin was staying with us for a few days we got to go down to the lake for a swim.  Shiu and I love the lake.  We're powerful swimmers and dad says that I look like a submarine in the water.
HEADS UP
We keep our heads out of the water while swimming, unlike most dogs.  We use our tails as rudders to help steer our direction.  Dad tends to get concerned about how far out into the lake i tend to venture.  Shi doesn't swim out as far as me even though she easily could.  She doesn't like to get too far away from dad.   Here's a bunch of photos of me and Shiloh on one of our excursions down to the lake for a swim.

Dear Max...we went to the Beach and muzzer left the 'puter at home, but now we have read all gazillion of the posts we missed and are all catched up! We did not swim at the beach because the ocean is not heated, but we got pretty wet!

Some dumbo woman asked if Me and Teka were related, like bruzzer and sister?

Duh!

She doesn't have much hair.

But it would be great to have a real sissie, or maybe even a cousin Cassie to play with

STEP UP TO ADOPT A PET

If you can, please consider opening your home to a homeless animal, preferably a dog or cat or other domesticated animal; livestock does better on farms and wild animals do better in zoos and parks. Your local Humane Society or SPCA or Animal Shelter has a wide selection of could be, should be, pets looking for new homes. If you can't adopt, perhaps you can at least become a sponsor. We'll show you how to help out Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary (AHGRRS) on our blog page, but you can help out any organization of your choice, but please help; contribute or volunteer.

PLEASE HELP SPONSOR A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS GOLDEN

CAN'T ADOPT; BECOME AN ANGEL.
So many Senior and Special Needs Goldens do not find "forever homes". Many of these dogs have above average medical needs and costs, are maintained on "special" diets, or have other extraordinary needs. Your donations can be targeted towards a particular Senior or Special needs Golden Retriever. As a sponsor, you will receive updates about your "special" Golden, and will be mentioned in our quarterly newsletter as the dog's sponsor. We also accept Paypal donations. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation is fully tax-deductible. Please just write the Golden's name in the memo line of your check or Paypal submission when sponsoring a Golden Retriever.
